The widely used bifunctional labeling reagent 4-[18F]fluorobenzoic acid ([18F]FBA) and its activated form N-succinimidyl 4-[18F]fluorobenzoate ([18F]SFB) were prepared using a modified Siemens/CTI chemistry process control unit (CPCU) double vessel [18F]FDG module. The products were obtained with a radiochemical yield greater than 99% with decay corrected yields of 77+/-5% (n=4) for [18F]FBA and 46+/-5% (n=4) for [18F]SFB. The presented synthetic procedure is highly reproducible and fully automated.

Benzoic acid and salicyclic acid in ointments were analyzed quantitatively by reversed-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography. Both benzoic and salicyclic acids can be assayed in combinations directily without interference from each other or the ointment bases. The method is accurate, simple, and rapid. Excellent results were obtained with three commercial bases.

In the title compound, [Sn(C(6)H(5))(3)(C(9)H(10)NO(2))], the Sn atom is coordinated by three phenyl groups and a carboxyl-ate anion in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. An intra-molecular C-H⋯O inter-action forms an S(7) ring motif. The dihedral angles between the benzoate group and the other three phenyl rings are 76.94 (8), 66.82 (8) and 42.34 (9)°. The crystal structure is further stabilized by inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-actions.

The current study was designed to investigate the effects of peripheral anosmia on the display of lordosis behaviour in orchidectomized rats primed with oestradiol benzoate and progesterone. Peripheral anosmia was induced by intranasal Zn SO4 application in rats trained to locate a food pellet buried under shavings. The willingness to mate - proportion of animals displaying lordosis responses to mounts of a stimulus male - did not differ in the anosmic animals and in saline controls. The thrombin-like snake venom enzyme, batroxobin, was acylated by 4-amidinophenyl benzoate at the active site serine hydroxyl. From the enzymatically inactive benzoyl-batroxobin, batroxobin is generated with a half-life of deacylation of about 1 hour. Feminine behavior in the male rat can be enhanced by exposing ORCH animals primed with estradiol benzoate and progesterone to the odor of urine collected from intact male adult congeners [20]. The present study provides evidence that this pheromonal effect is androgen dependent. A higher proportion of ORCH feminized rats displayed lordosis behavior following exposure to the odor of urine for either intact male rats or from ORCH rats supplemented with testosterone propionate than did ORCH feminized rats exposed to the odor of urine originating from non injected ORCH males.

Serum prolactin levels in intact, castrated, and castrated adrenalectomized normal and male pseudohermaphrodite (Tfm) rats were compared before and after administering testosterone oenanthate and oestradiol benzoate. The metabolic fate of [14C] benzoic acid administered i.p. to marasmic-kwashiorkor rats has been investigated. Rats fed a normal diet with benzoic acid administered i.p. at 200 mg/kg, excreted the benzoic acid mainly as hippuric acid (99% of 24 h excretion), while marasmic-kwashiorkor rats excreted 62--85% as hippuric acid and 14--37% as the glucuronide conjugate. 2 weeks after repletion metabolism of benzoic acid by the marasmic-kwashiorkor rats on the stock diet had returned to normal; most of the benzoate was excreted as hippuric acid.
