Research trends in estrogen and rheumatoid arthritis: a systematic bibliometric approach.

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease. An increasing body of evidence indicates that hormones, particularly estrogen, play a significant role in RA. To date, no bibliometric studies have been conducted specifically on the role of estrogen in RA. This study seeks to perform a bibliometric analysis to elucidate research trends concerning estrogen in the context of RA from a comprehensive and systematic viewpoint. METHODS: We extracted literature pertaining to estrogen in RA from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database, up to April 22, 2025. Research t

Global Research Trends in EV-Based Cell-Free Therapy for Osteoarthritis: A Bibliometric Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis (OA) represents a major global health challenge with no ideal treatment options available. Early-stage treatment typically focuses on symptomatic relief of pain and stiffness; while late-stage patients can only opt for surgical interventions such as joint replacement to improve quality of life. Cell-free therapy based on extracellular vesicles (EVs) has offered a novel therapeutic approach for regulating bone metabolism and repairing cartilage, demonstrating emerging potential. METHODS: Publications related to OA and Cell-free therapy based on EVs were retrieved fro

Global research characteristics and trends of artificial intelligence for scoliosis: A bibliometric analysis (2014-2023).

The integration of Artificial Intelligence into medical fields is transforming clinical practices, but its role in scoliosis - a condition requiring complex diagnostic and management strategies - remains underexplored. The current narrative review was planned to analyse global research trends in Artificial Intelligence applications to scoliosis from 2014 to 2023 using a bibliometric approach. Data from 627 publications, authored by 562 researchers across 57 countries, was extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection, and analysed using CiteSpace 6.3.R1. Results revealed a surge in publica

Research status and trends of diabetic foot related osteomyelitis from 1994 to 2024: A 30-year bibliometric analysis.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot (DF) is an infectious condition with ulceration and destruction due to neurological and vascular issues. Osteomyelitis affects 10% to 15% of moderate and 50% of severe DF, often requiring surgery and long-term antibiotics. DF related osteomyelitis, resulting from non-healing ulcers, has a high amputation risk and originates from soft tissue infections spreading to bone. However, there are few bibliometric studies on DF and osteomyelitis. This research is to analyze literature on DF and osteomyelitis from 1994 to 2024, exploring research trends and frontiers. METHODS:

Dermatologic Research in Displaced Populations: Importance, Challenges, and Proposed Solutions.

Displaced populations face complex dermatologic challenges. Contributing factors include low immunization rates, poor sanitation, crowded living conditions, and physical abuse. Chronic inflammatory conditions and infectious diseases, including fungal infections and scabies, are prevalent. Research is crucial to reduce the spread of disease, improve care in these populations, and develop sustainable frameworks for long-term dermatologic health care in crisis settings. The paucity of dermatologist support in this field exacerbates the issue. Ethical considerations include nonmaleficence and cult

Deciphering atopic dermatitis heterogeneity: a short review on the translational revolution from endotypes to immunotypes.

Atopic dermatitis is the most prevalent chronic inflammatory skin disease, classically defined by its eczematous lesions and relapsing course. However, growing evidence over the past decade has revealed that this disease is in fact far more heterogeneous than previously thought - both in its clinical manifestations and in the underlying molecular and immunological mechanisms. This short review explores the evolving conceptual framework used to analyze atopic dermatitis, encompassing clinical presentations (phenotypes), immune polarization profiles (immunotypes), and the background disease-rela

EndoCompass Project: Research Roadmap for Thyroid Endocrinology.

BACKGROUND: Endocrine science remains underrepresented in European Union research programs despite the fundamental role of hormone health in human well-being. Analysis of the CORDIS database reveals a persistent gap between the societal impact of endocrine disorders and their research prioritization. At national funding level, endocrine societies report limited or little attention of national research funding toward endocrinology. The EndoCompass project - a joint initiative between the European Society of Endocrinology and the European Society of Paediatric Endocrinology, aimed to identify an

Disparities in Huntington's disease care and research.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Disparities in care and outcomes are well described in common neurologic disorders; however, less is known about disparities in rare diseases such as Huntington's disease (HD). This review summarizes HD epidemiology in the US and globally while highlighting disparities in HD diagnosis and outcomes across various HD groups. The review also discusses how the lack of diversity in HD research threatens the validity of clinical trials and raises concerns about global accessibility to emerging therapies. RECENT FINDINGS: Global HD prevalence and incidence vary worldwide, though t

Missed Nuances in Tuberculosis Research: Reflections from a Tibetan Scholar.

Acknowledging and valuing the lived experiences of scholars from the Global South is crucial for more nuanced, refined, and equitable approaches to and interpretations of research. The sheer lack of Tibetan scholars authoring and leading studies within the Tibetan diaspora is especially concerning. The paucity of Tibetan scholars in tuberculosis (TB) discourse is a marker and product of the colonization of academic global health and of global inequities in opportunity and credibility. The lack of Tibetan voices, advocates and scholars alike, in the TB discourse creates ambiguities and misinter

Bibliometric analysis and knowledge mapping of diabetes mellitus combined with tuberculosis research: trends from 1995 to 2023.

BACKGROUND: The synergistic epidemic of diabetes mellitus and tuberculosis (DM-TB) has created a dual disease burden, challenging global health systems with complex pathophysiological interactions and suboptimal treatment outcomes. To decode the evolving research landscape, this study presents the latest comprehensive bibliometric analysis mapping the intellectual architecture of DM-TB research over three decades. METHODS: We systematically analyzed 791 peer-reviewed articles from the Web of Science Core Collection (1995-2023) using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix. Advanced metrics inc
