Foxf1 is required for the specification and maintenance of pulmonary capillary identity.

The pulmonary microvasculature consists of two transcriptionally distinct capillary (CAP) endothelial populations, CAP1 and CAP2 cells, that form the alveolar capillary network. While CAP1 and CAP2 are functionally distinct, the transcriptional mechanisms that specify and maintain these endothelial fates remain poorly understood. The Forkhead transcription factor Foxf1 regulates vascular development and is implicated in the neonatal disease alveolar capillary dysplasia with misalignment of pulmonary veins (ACDMPV). However, its role in the specification of pulmonary endothelial subtypes has no

Geometric criterion for capillary thread breakup in rectangular microchannels.

Capillary breakup of fluid threads underlies lab-on-a-chip diagnostics, drug encapsulation, and oil trapping in underground rock. Rectangular channels are the practical norm, yet no unified geometric criterion explains how their shape controls the onset and geometry of breakup. Combining direct numerical simulations, stop-flow analysis, and static equilibrium analysis, we show that breakup is triggered when the family of equilibrium neck shapes terminates. The associated critical continuous-phase volume depends only on the channel aspect ratio [Formula: see text], and the critical neck geometr

Thermal and solutal capillary effects in tear film dynamics.

An analytical and numerical study is carried out for the stability of a thin tear film considering a single-layered model. The mass, momentum, and energy equations are simplified under the lubrication approximation to obtain nonlinear partial differential spatiotemporal evolution equations for the film height and surfactant concentration. These evolution equations involve various physical mechanisms such as thermo- and solutocapillary stresses, van der Waals forces, surface tension forces, and slip at the corneal surface. Linear stability analysis reveals that solutocapillary stresses enhance

Renal denervation increases capillary density in hypertensive patients.

AIMS: Cardiovascular (CV) outcome data after endovascular renal denervation (RDN) are sparse. Capillary density determines total peripheral resistance and thus blood pressure. Microvascular changes of the retinal vessels are a marker of hypertension-mediated organ damage. We report data on capillary density 6 and 12 months after RDN. METHODS AND RESULTS: Endovascular RDN was performed in 132 patients with uncontrolled hypertension confirmed by 24-h ambulatory blood pressure (ABP). Office and 24-h ABP were measured at baseline and 6 and 12 months after RDN. In parallel, retinal capillary densi

Capillary Electrophoresis Immunoassay for Detection of Anti-insulin Antibodies.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disorder primarily affecting children and adolescents. Diagnostic techniques for autoimmune diseases typically examine the amounts of autoantibodies (AAbs) and are performed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and radioimmunoassays. Insulin autoantibody (IAA) is one of the earliest biomarkers in juveniles prone to type 1 diabetes; therefore, the development of highly sensitive assays could enhance early diagnostic capabilities. To this end, we developed a capillary electrophoresis laser-induced fluorescence noncompetitive immunoassay for the detec

Buccal Lobular Capillary Haemangioma in Children - A Case Report.

RATIONALE: Lobular capillary haemangioma (LCH), also known as a pyogenic granuloma, is a benign vascular tumour that can appear in the oral cavity but its occurrence in the buccal mucosa is relatively rare. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 7-year-old girl presented with a painless, gradually enlarging lesion on the right buccal mucosa, associated with bleeding and swelling. DIAGNOSIS: Clinical evaluation and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of LCH. TREATMENT AND OUTCOMES: The lesion was surgically excised under local anaesthesia. Healing was uneventful, with no recurrence over a 6-month follow-up.

A rare capillary type cardiac hemangioma in the right atrium.

Cardiac hemangioma is very rare and accounts for 2%-3% of the primary cardiac tumors. They are classified into capillary, cavernous, epitheloid, and arteriovenous types. Although commonly asymptomatic, haemangiomas can cause arrhythmia, pericardial effusion, congestive heart failure, right ventricular outflow tract obstruction, coronary insufficiency, and sudden death; the symptoms depend on their location and size. Accurate preoperative diagnosis is challenging and elusive. Advanced imaging modalities, including echocardiography, CT, and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), are useful for furthe

Capillary hemangioma of the caruncle: A case report and review of the literature.

PURPOSE: To describe a rare case of capillary hemangioma of the caruncle and to present a summary of previously published cases. OBSERVATIONS: A 59-year-old woman presented with a reddish, indurated mass of the left caruncle following minor ocular trauma. Slit-lamp examination revealed a well-defined vascular lesion measuring 6 × 6 mm without deep extension. Orbital imaging confirmed a circumscribed, superficial lesion. Histopathologic evaluation of the excised lesion demonstrated lobular proliferation of thin-walled capillary vessels within fibrous stroma, consistent with capillary hemangiom

Capillary interactions drive the self-organization of bacterial colonies.

Many bacteria inhabit thin water layers on solid surfaces. These thin films occur both naturally - in soils, on hosts, on textiles - and in the lab on agar hydrogels. In these environments, cells the water menisci formed around bacteria lead to capillary attraction between cells while still allowing them to slide past one another. We develop an experimental apparatus that allows us to control bacterial collective experience capillary forces but it is unclear how these forces shape bacterial collective behavior. Here, we show that behavior by varying the strength and range of capillary forces.

Capillary blood in core laboratories: current and future challenges.

Capillary blood sampling is gaining recognition as a patient-centered alternative to traditional venipuncture. Its main advantages are that it is less invasive, reduces patient discomfort, and potentially can be performed without the direct supervision of a healthcare professional. These features could facilitate access to healthcare, particularly for patients with limited access to clinical facilities or those requiring frequent testing, thereby supporting telemedicine, and improving participation in screening programs and clinical trials. However, its integration into routine clinical practi

Spontaneous remission of retinal capillary macroaneurysm: case report.

BACKGROUND: Retinal capillary macroaneurysms (RCM), a rare macular vascular disease, was reported here for the first time in a Chinese patient. CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old female patient presented with a complaint of blurred vision in her right eye for over a month. Upon specialized examination, her best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/50 in the right eye. Fundus examination revealed yellow-white, hard exudates in the nasal and temporal sides of the fovea and a suspected hemorrhagic lesion was observed external to the inferior vascular arcade. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) sca
