Threshold effect of white blood cell count on the risk of refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in pediatric patients: A retrospective cohort study.

Refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP) remains a major challenge in pediatric respiratory infections, with limited early predictors for disease progression. White blood cell (WBC) count is a widely used biomarker, but its relationship with RMPP risk has not been fully elucidated. This study investigates the threshold effect of WBC count on RMPP development to enhance risk stratification and early intervention strategies. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on pediatric patients diagnosed with MPP. WBC count was analyzed as both a continuous variable and stratified into quarti

Baseline and early changes in eosinophil count and neutrophil-to-eosinophil ratio predict outcomes in metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with nivolumab.

The role of eosinophils in patients with cancer receiving systemic therapy based on immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has become a subject of increasing interest. The aim of the present study was to assess the prognostic role of absolute eosinophil count (AEC) and neutrophil-to-eosinophil ratio (NER) in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) receiving nivolumab. The associations of AEC and NER at baseline and their relative changes (Δ) after one month of nivolumab therapy with progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and objective response rate (ORR) were analyze

Association between the dietary index for gut microbiota and female infertility: The mediation effects of lymphocyte count and red blood cell folate.

Previous studies have revealed a the relationship between changes in the gut microbiota composition and female infertility. While the association between the dietary index for gut microbiota (DI-GM) and female infertility remains unstudied. The correlation was investigated with NHANES data from 2013 to 2018, with dietary recall data being used to calculate the DI-GM. Mediation analysis was performed to explore the role of lymphocyte count (LC) and red blood cell (RBC) folate in the DI-GM-induced risk of female infertility risk. Among the 1555 individuals included in our study, 311 were diagnos

Correlation between gag-specific CD8 T-cell responses, viral load, and CD4 count in HIV-1 infection is dependent on disease status.

BACKGROUND: It still remains controversial which kind of relationships exist between HIV-1-specific CD8 T-cell responses and HIV RNA load or CD4 count over the course of the infection. This study was designed to investigate the role of HIV-specific CD8 responses in patients with different disease status. METHODS: Three cohorts of patients were selected according to CD4 count levels: long-term nonprogressors (LTNPs, n = 19), asymptomatic progressors (CD4 counts between 500 and 350 cells/mm(3), n = 14), and progressors (CD4 counts <350 cells/mm(3), n = 23). Six of the LTNPs experiencing a quick

Postoperative kinetics of point-of-care C-reactive protein versus total white blood cell count after tibial plateau leveling osteotomy in dogs.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Objective assessment of the postoperative acute phase response following major orthopedic surgery, such as tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO), is essential for distinguishing uncomplicated recovery from infectious complications. Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels typically return to baseline by 14 days postoperatively, whereas total white blood cell (WBC) counts may remain nonspecifically elevated due to physiological stress. This study aimed to prospectively characterize and directly compare the postoperative kinetics of point-of-care CRP and total WBC counts in d
