Proposed addendum to the 2006 US Food and Drug Administration guidance on chronic cutaneous ulcers and burn wounds: recommendations from the Wound Care Collaborative Community.

The Wound Care Collaborative Community (WCCC) presents this proposed addendum to the 2006 US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance for industry on chronic cutaneous ulcers and burn wounds, with this addendum reflecting nearly 2 decades of scientific and clinical progress. Key gaps in the original guidance have emerged with advances such as the Wound Reporting in Animal and Human Preclinical Studies (WRAHPS) reporting standards and the FDA Biomarker Qualification Program. This proposed addendum updates preclinical recommendations by emphasizing standardized bioassays for biologics, improv

The asset-vulnerability trap: climate shocks and health-seeking behavior for chronic diseases in Somalia.

Somalia faces a dual crisis of high chronic disease burden and extreme climate vulnerability. This study examines the predictors of health-seeking behavior (HSB) for chronic diseases among Somali households. Using data from the 2020 Somali Demographic and Health Survey (SDHS), survey-weighted probit model was applied to a sample of 69,998 individuals to analyze predictors of regular treatment-seeking behavior. Approximately 6.6% of the population reported a chronic disease, with 48.8% of those individuals seeking regular treatment. Wealth (AME = 0.094, p < 0.001) and urban residence (AME = 0.0

Linking Costs and Survival in the Treatment of Older Adults With Chronic Myeloid Leukemia: An Analysis of SEER-Medicare Data From 1995 to 2007.

BACKGROUND: The high prices of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) therapy are well recognized, but less discussion has focused on the value of health care spending on the disease. This study examined whether the added costs have been "worth" the benefits among older adults with CML. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed trends in health care costs and survival over time of 2164 CML patients over age 65 using the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results-Medicare-linked database. We estimated life expectancy over a 15-year duration after diagnosis using a Weibull survival model and projected the cor

Automatic foot ulcer segmentation using conditional generative adversarial network (AFSegGAN): A wound management system.

Effective wound care is essential to prevent further complications, promote healing, and reduce the risk of infection and other health issues. Chronic wounds, particularly in older adults, patients with disabilities, and those with pressure, venous, or diabetic foot ulcers, cause significant morbidity and mortality. Due to the positive trend in the number of individuals with chronic wounds, particularly among the growing elderly and diabetes populations, it is imperative to develop novel technologies and practices for the best practice clinical management of chronic wounds to minimize the pote

Building pain resilience in LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and individuals with other related experiences or identities (LGBTQIA+) experience chronic pain and disability at twice the rate as their cisgender, endosex, and heterosexual counterparts. These disparities are shaped by intersecting social, structural, and historical factors, including minority stress, health care discrimination, and barriers to affirming care. While contextualized approaches to pain management have been recommended to address the unique lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals, prevailing pain models largely rem

Artificial intelligence for early sepsis detection and dynamic prognostication in onco-critical care.

Critically ill cancer patients have a unique physiological profile marked by severe immunosuppression, frailty, and multimorbidity, making traditional tools like Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II or Sequential Organ Failure Assessment often inadequate for accurate risk assessment. This review explores artificial intelligence's potential to transform onco-critical care from reactive to predictive management. We will synthesize literature on two key applications: Early sepsis detection in critically ill cancer patients and refining mortality prediction models to guide ethical car
