PTCMIL: multiple instance learning via prompt token clustering for whole slide image analysis.

Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) has achieved significant success in whole slide image (WSI) analysis. However, the complexity and heterogeneity in WSIs remain fundamental challenges for MIL problem due to the various information in each WSI. However, existing MIL methods face challenges in effectively aggregating diverse patch information into robust and predictive WSI representations. While Vision Transformers (ViTs) and clustering-based approaches have shown promise, they are often computationally intensive and fail to fully capture task-specific features and slide-specific variability. Identification of Symptom Clusters and Core Symptoms in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Network Analysis in Chinese Cohorts.

BACKGROUND: Research on symptom clustering in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) using network analysis is limited. Core symptom clusters in Chinese patients with IBD have not been clearly defined, and comparative evidence between Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) remains scarce, limiting the development of targeted symptom management strategies. METHODS: Data were collected from three hospitals using the Chinese version of the symptom scale for IBD to assess symptom frequency, severity, and distress. Exploratory factor analysis was performed to identify symptom clu

Automatic phenotyping of emergency department patients with incidental hepatic steatosis: A machine learning clustering analysis.

BACKGROUND: Incidental findings in the Emergency Department (ED) are often not acted upon due to acuity of care and lack of referral pathways. Artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to combine heterogeneous data collected during ED encounters to computationally identify patients with specific disease phenotypes allowing for directed care-paths. We identified ED patients with undiagnosed Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Liver Disease (MASLD) to demonstrate the feasibility of automated algorithms for clinical phenotypes. METHODS: We identified adults in 5 EDs with abdominal imaging between 1/

Identifying risk patterns for sudden cardiac death in athletes: A clustering and principal component analysis approach.

Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) is a critical and unexpected condition that occurs due to cardiac causes within one hour of the onset of acute cardiovascular symptoms or twenty-four hours in unwitnessed cases. Despite advancements in cardiovascular medicine, practical methods for predicting SCD are still lacking, and there are no standardized systems to identify individuals at risk, especially in seemingly healthy populations such as athletes. In this study, we employed hierarchical clustering and principal component analysis (PCA) on data from 711 competitive athletes, revealing distinct patterns

Clinical phenotypes of type 2 diabetes and their association with microvascular complications in primary care: a cluster analysis.

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a heterogeneous condition associated with a substantial burden of microvascular complications. Conventional assessment based on isolated clinical variables may not fully capture this heterogeneity. Cluster analysis offers a potential strategy to identify clinically relevant diabetes phenotypes using routinely collected primary care variables. OBJECTIVE: To identify clinical phenotypes of type 2 diabetes in a primary care population using cluster analysis and to examine their association with prevalent diabetic retinopathy and nephropathy. METHODS: A cr…

Advanced thyroid nodule detection using ultrasonography image analysis and bilateral mean clustering strategies.

This research work focuses on developing an advanced diagnostic method for thyroid nodules using ultrasonography images. The core idea revolves around the observation that the presence and amount of calcium flecks in thyroid nodules can indicate their severity, potentially leading to severe thyroid cancer. A novel technique, named Bilateral Mean Clustering Strategy (Bi-MCS), is proposed, combining the strengths of Fuzzy C mean and K-mean clustering approaches. This technique enhances color sense-based segmentation accuracy by precisely identifying the edges of thyroid nodules, crucial for dete

Pangenome analysis of Lactobacillus mulieris strains reveals distinct subspecies clusters with defined ecological adaptations.

Lactobacillus mulieris is a recently described species, reportedly isolated from human urine, vagina, and gut. Previous genomic studies of L. mulieris highlighted significant genetic diversity among its strains. To gain a deeper understanding of this genomic diversity, we conducted a comprehensive genomic comparison of 70 L. mulieris strains from diverse sources. Phylogenomic and genome relatedness analysis identified three distinct clades, each representing a potential subspecies cluster. Pangenome analysis revealed distinct gene clusters shaping the functional characteristics and unique ecol

Segmentation and Clustering Analysis of Scanned Foot Models for Intelligent Diabetic Foot Ulcer Offloading Boots.

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a common and severe complication of diabetes that leads to amputation if not effectively managed. Intelligent offloading or rehabilitation devices or boots are used to manage or observe the ulcer and the process of treatment which requires the segmentation and clustering analysis of 3D scanned foot models. This study examines the effectiveness of two widely used clustering algorithms, K-Means and Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM), in segmenting scanned foot models to use in rehabilitation boots. The performance of K-Means and GMM was compared across 98 foot models. GMM

Time-series clustering analysis for treatment pattern of lasmiditan for 2 years from the initial prescription.

BACKGROUND: Migraine is a highly prevalent neurological disorder and a leading cause of disability worldwide. Although triptans and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are widely used, a substantial proportion of patients show inadequate responses. Lasmiditan, a selective 5-HT1F receptor agonist introduced in Japan in January 2022, represents a novel acute treatment option that lacks vasoconstrictive activity and can be prescribed even in patients with cardiovascular risk. However, little is known about the trend of its long-term real-world use. OBJECTIVES: To characterize 2-year lasmiditan
