UNLABELLED: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) represents a frequent cause for gastroenterological referral. 50% of all gastroenterological consultations are for functional gastrointestinal disorders (IBS included). AIM: To study the effect of prokinetic treatment with cisapride in patients with constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ninety-six patients were randomly assigned to treatment with either cisapride 5 mg three times daily or placebo three times daily for a period of 12 weeks. Over the past 30 years, the authors reconstructed the esophagus with the right colon in 85 patients who had congenital and benign disease. The first individual operated upon in 1955 was asymptomatic. Nine patients had congenital tracheoesophageal fistula with atresia, four esophageal varices, 31 advanced obliterative esophagitis, and 23 corrosive destruction.
