Efficacy of yoga-breath linked intervention to stop smoking (Y-BLISS) in reducing the number of cigarettes smoked per day among smokers attempting to reduce or quit: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

The proposed research aims to test the effects of a two-month yoga-breath linked intervention to stop smoking (Y-BLISS) as an add-on to standard treatment in tobacco use disorder (TUD; in the form of cigarette smoking) by conducting a randomized controlled study with the following primary outcome variable: number of cigarettes smoked per day. Secondary outcome variables are motivation to stop smoking, craving, dependence severity, lung capacity, and exhaled carbon-monoxide, and 7-day point-prevalence abstinence (7PPA). In this single-blinded, randomized, controlled, parallel-group superiority

Lateral Meniscoplasty With Semitendinosus Tendon Combined With Capsulodesis.

BACKGROUND: Subtotal lateral meniscectomy may lead to increased tibiofemoral contact pressures and early degenerative changes. Meniscal reconstruction using autograft tissue has been shown to restore load distribution and joint stability. This video demonstrates an arthroscopic technique for lateral meniscoplasty using a doubled semitendinosus tendon, combined with capsulodesis, to limit the meniscal extrusion rate. INDICATIONS: Patients with postmeniscectomy syndrome and a sufficient residual meniscal rim who present with lateral compartment pain and preserved articular cartilage. TECHNIQUE

Nurses and Midwives Mistakes and Errors in Pediatric Health Outcomes in Southwestern Uganda.

BACKGROUND: According to the World Health Organization, nearly 1 in 10 patients suffer harm during healthcare, resulting in over 3 million deaths in low- and middle-income countries. Alarmingly, more than half of these incidents are preventable, with medication errors being the primary cause. Children are particularly vulnerable to these errors and other adverse patient events. Therefore, this study explored nurses and midwives' mistakes and errors in paediatric health outcomes in southwestern Uganda. METHODS: We adopted a phenomenological qualitative research design. Purposive and consecutiv

Arthroscopic Treatment of Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor of the Hip With Concomitant Femoracetabular Impingement Syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT) is a benign but locally aggressive proliferative disorder of the synovium. TGCT of the hip is destructive to the joint and is a risk factor for early total hip arthroplasty (THA). Open synovectomy has previously been the gold-standard treatment. However, hip arthroscopy has emerged as a less invasive approach for the management of TGCT of the hip. INDICATIONS: Arthroscopic management of TGCT of the hip is indicated when there is either confirmed TCGT on biopsy or strong suspicion for TCGT based on clinical and radiologic findings, minimal-to-no

Cell-Free Aragonite-Based Scaffold With Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate Augmentation for Osteochondral Defects of the Knee.

BACKGROUND: Damage to the joint surface, which affects articular cartilage and the underlying subchondral bone, is a common cause for significant knee pain and disfunction. The use of CartiHeal Agili-C, a cell-free aragonite-based implant, is an emerging option for patients who may otherwise be a poor candidate for allograft transplantation or within geographic areas where there is a limited availability of donor tissue. INDICATIONS: The CartiHeal Agili-C implant is indicated for patients with an International Cartilage Repair Society grade III or IV lesion with a total treatable area of 1 to

Posterior Labrum Repair: Two-Portal Technique.

BACKGROUND: Posterior labral injuries can cause shoulder pain and instability. Posterior labral tears account for up to 47% of all tears treated arthroscopically. Injuries can result from repetitive microtrauma, recurrent posterior subluxations, or traumatic posterior dislocations. Posterior labral injuries can be reliably repaired with arthroscopic surgery. A systematic review by Delong et al found improved return to play along with lower recurrence rates when repairing these injuries using an arthroscopic approach compared to an open approach. INDICATIONS: The main indication includes a sym

Long COVID or Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) in Children and Adolescents.

Introduction: Few studies of children with long COVID (post-COVID-19 condition) or post-acute sequelae of SARS CoV-2 (PASC) have been reported. Those terms describe symptoms that persist for weeks or months or as new symptoms that develop after SARS-CoV-2 infection. This condition might be found to various degrees in the severity of COVID-19. This study aimed to describe long COVID in confirmed SARS-CoV-2-infected children.Design: An observational cross-sectional study.Setting: Tertiary care hospital between January and November 2021.Participants: Children, age 5-17 years, with virologically c

Medial-Sided Repair in Multi-Ligamentous Knee Injury.

BACKGROUND: Injuries to the medial structures of the knee are common in multi-ligamentous knee injuries (MLKIs), which account for 0.02% of orthopedic injuries each year. The most common medial structure involved is the superficial medial collateral ligament (sMCL) with possible additional injury to the posterior oblique ligament (POL) and deep medial collateral ligament (dMCL). There has been little evidence for the superior management of these structures regarding the use of repair or reconstruction to reproduce overall knee function. Although reconstruction may provide more valgus stability

Augmentation of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Using the Peroneus Longus: Description of the Surgical Technique.

BACKGROUND: The quadruple graft from the hamstring tendons has become a widely used option in the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), however, this graft may not have the desirable diameter for the reconstruction, increasing the risk of re-rupture. In this context, the peroneus longus tendon graft appears as an option to complement other grafts, transforming a thin quadruple graft into a sextuple graft. INDICATIONS: The sextuple graft technique for ACL reconstruction is used in patients who have a quadruple graft with a diameter of less than 8 mm, and due to its length, it

Hybrid Repair of a Medial Meniscus Mid-Body Radial Tear.

BACKGROUND: Meniscal radial tears are associated with altered contact mechanics, as they have the potential to disrupt the meniscal hoop stress mechanism. In prior studies, radial tears are associated with higher grade of cartilage damage, as well as higher rate and severity of meniscal extrusion in knees with a radial tear relative to other types of tears. Improved understanding of the meniscus biological potential together with modern developments in surgical technique has paved the way for the current emphasis on repairing even radial tears. INDICATION: Large or complete radial tears of th

Two-Stage Revision ACL Reconstruction with Arthroscopic Tunnel Bone Grafting.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a common orthopedic surgery, and due to the increased number of primary reconstructions being performed, the number of revision ACL reconstructions is also increasing. INDICATIONS: Two-stage revision ACL reconstruction has lower failure rates compared to 1-stage and is indicated when significant tunnel expansion has occurred or malpositioned tunnels prohibit an adequate reconstruction. In this presentation, 2-stage revision ACL reconstruction was performed with an arthroscopic bone grafting technique of both the femoral and tibial

Effectiveness of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation against poststroke urinary incontinence: a study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Poststroke urinary incontinence (PSI) is prevalent in stroke survivors, and high-quality evidence is required to guide clinical practice. Previous studies have demonstrated the curative effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for urinary incontinence in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease (PD), and spinal cord injury (SCI). Here, we describe the protocol for a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of low-frequency rTMS on the contralesional primary motor cortex (M1) for the treatment of PSI. Older bariatric surgery candidates: is there greater psychological risk than for young and midlife candidates?

BACKGROUND: Although severe obesity is dramatically increasing in older adults, many bariatric programs use age cutoffs due to concerns about greater perioperative morbidity and mortality risks. More recently, surgical outcomes have been reported in older adults. However, a paucity of data is available on the psychological risks of older bariatric candidates. Our objective is to examine psychiatric risk factors and weight loss outcomes in older (≥65 yr) versus midlife (40-55 yr) versus young adult (18-29 yr) patients. METHODS: Older, midlife, and young adults (n = 608) who underwent weight lo

Medial Patellofemoral Reconstruction with a Hamstring Allograft and Proximal Trochlear Bumpectomy.

BACKGROUND: Patellar instability is a common condition in adolescents and young adults, often associated with trochlear dysplasia, patella alta, and increased tibial tubercle-trochlear groove distance. While medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction (MPFLR) is the most common surgical intervention for recurrent instability, patients with high-grade dysplasia and supratrochlear spurs may require adjunctive procedures to restore stability. INDICATIONS: Recurrent lateral patellar instability for MPFLR and Dejour type B or D trochlear dysplasia with a trochlear bump height of ≥5 mm and

Endosteal Button Fixation for Latissimus Dorsi Tendon Rupture in a Bodybuilding Athlete.

BACKGROUND: Bodybuilders are uniquely at risk of shoulder injuries given training intensity, frequency, and heavy overhead loads through a full arc of motion. Latissimus tears are rare injuries that have increased incidence in overhead and weightlifting athletes, following forceful hyperabduction/adduction during sport-specific activities. Humeral avulsions of the latissimus tendon are treated with endosteal button fixation. INDICATIONS: Endosteal button repair is indicated for acute or chronic latissimus tears up to 2 years after injury, in patients who are unable to return to their desired

Gambling trajectories among sexual and gender minority individuals in Canada: protocol for a 5-year mixed-methods longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Gambling encompasses all activities that involve betting or wagering money. It is highly prevalent both in Canada and worldwide. While most individuals gamble without experiencing harm, some develop problem gambling, which is associated with serious psychological, relational and financial outcomes. Sexual and gender diversity (SGD) populations experience disproportionately high rates of mental health disorders, although little is known about their gambling trajectories. Knowledge in this regard is mainly based on cross-sectional studies, with no longitudinal evidence being availabl
