Lipid bilayer-mediated spatiotemporal correlation between near-wall confined motion of micro-carriers.

We employed intensity fluctuations of evanescent light scattering to probe spatiotemporal correlations in the near-wall confined motion of microspheres on supported lipid bilayers (SLBs). Normalized cross-correlation analysis revealed long-range, time-resolved correlations in particle-wall separation distances, demonstrating that interfacial stress propagation can transmit mechanical signals across membrane interfaces. The motion exhibited broadly corralled diffusion, with both the corral size and diffusion constant confined to the nanoscale. This confinement could be further classified into f

An ecological study protocol for the multimodal investigation of the neurophysiological underpinnings of dyadic joint action.

A novel multimodal experimental setup and dyadic study protocol were designed to investigate the neurophysiological underpinnings of joint action through the synchronous acquisition of EEG, ECG, EMG, respiration and kinematic data from two individuals engaged in ecologic and naturalistic cooperative and competitive joint actions involving face-to-face real-time and real-space coordinated full body movements. Such studies are still missing because of difficulties encountered in recording reliable neurophysiological signals during gross body movements, in synchronizing multiple devices, and in d

Scalp block improves electrophysiological stability and patient cooperation during deep brain stimulation surgery.

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a critical intervention for various neurological disorders. While effective, the traditional local infiltration anesthesia used in DBS surgeries often hinders electrophysiological recording quality and patient cooperativeness. The research aims to evaluate the impact of local infiltration versus scalp block anesthetic methods on electrophysiological signal quality and patient cooperativeness during DBS surgeries. This study involved patients who participated in an intraoperative task during the bilateral subthalamic nucleus DBS surgery for Parkinson's Disease be

Genetic cooperativity in multi-layer networks implicates cell survival and senescence in the striatum of Huntington's disease mice synchronous to symptoms.

MOTIVATION: Huntington's disease (HD) may evolve through gene deregulation. However, the impact of gene deregulation on the dynamics of genetic cooperativity in HD remains poorly understood. Here, we built a multi-layer network model of temporal dynamics of genetic cooperativity in the brain of HD knock-in mice (allelic series of Hdh mice). To enhance biological precision and gene prioritization, we integrated three complementary families of source networks, all inferred from the same RNA-seq time series data in Hdh mice, into weighted-edge networks where an edge recapitulates path-length vari

Aberrant reward center response to partner reputation during a social exchange game in generalized social phobia.

OBJECTIVE: Generalized social anxiety disorder (GSAD) is characterized by excessive fear of public scrutiny and reticence in social engagement. Previous studies have probed the neural basis of GSAD often using static, noninteractive stimuli (e.g., face photographs) and have identified dysfunction in fear circuitry. We sought to investigate brain-based dysfunction in GSAD during more real-world, dynamic social interactions, focusing on the role of reward-related regions that are implicated in social decision-making. METHODS: Thirty-six healthy individuals (healthy control [HC]) and 36 individu

Save your friend, strike your enemy! How sex and handedness influence EEG signatures of cooperative and competitive behaviour.

Some evolutionary theories explain population-level right vs left motor asymmetries in accordance with the achievement of equilibrium in social cooperation and competition. In humans, an Evolutionarily Stable Strategy (ESS) suggests that left/right-handers would be more efficient in competitive/cooperative behaviours, respectively, with stronger asymmetry expected in males. To test one facet of the ESS, we recorded electroencephalography (EEG) prior (rest-EEG) and during a Go/NoGo task in which 24 left- and 24 right-handed participants (half females) press a key (Go condition) to either "save

Investigation of Selected Polymer Composite-Aluminum Oxide Coating Tribological Systems.

The tribotesting of friction systems requires discussion on proper selection of its conditions and data presentation. System tribology is based, for example, on analysis of the friction contact, the roughness of the cooperating surfaces, and the wear rate of the rubbing elements or coefficient of friction in relation to the sliding distance. Friction pairs, consisting of an aluminum alloy sample with an oxide layer (Al2O3) with and without the addition of inorganic fullerenes like tungsten disulphide (IF-WS2) nanoparticles on its surface cooperating with a counter-sample made of polymer compos

Fingerprints and Its Correlation with Dental Caries, Molar Relation, and Cooperation of Children During Dental Treatment: A Cross-sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Fingerprint analysis for personal identification is well-known, since it is specific to each person and does not change over a lifetime. These days, it is being recognized as a helpful tool in understanding the basic questions in genetics and is emerging as an independent field in dentistry, known as dermatoglyphics. AIM: The aim of this study was to assess the correlation of fingerprints with social behavior, dental caries, molar relation, and cooperation of children while receiving dental care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 100 children aged 5-10 years who had reported to t

Chiral and Racemic Spin Crossover Polymorphs in a Family of Mononuclear Iron(II) Compounds.

Understanding the origin of cooperativity and the equilibrium temperature of transition (T1/2) displayed by the spin-crossover (SCO) compounds as well as controlling these parameters are of paramount importance for future applications. For this task, the occurrence of polymorphism, presented by a number of SCO complexes, may provide deep insight into the influence of the supramolecular organization on the SCO behavior. In this context, herein we present a novel family of mononuclear octahedral FeII complexes with formula cis-[Fe(bqen)(NCX)2], where bqen is the chelating tetradentate ligand N,N

Letter to editor: Peer attitudes after adolescent acquired brain injury: moving from intention to real-world inclusion.

Adolescent acquired brain injury (ABI) often results in long-term social challenges, with peer acceptance playing a crucial role in psychosocial outcomes. Hills and Dunsmuir's study highlights how attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control influence adolescents' intentions to engage with peers with ABI, explaining 83% of the variance. Notably, perceived behavioral control was the strongest predictor, indicating that even positive attitudes may not translate into inclusion if engagement is perceived as difficult. Externalizing behaviors further reduce the likelihood of peer a

Cytochrome P450 F-helix N204H mutation in CYP2C9.57 genetic variant reveals non-typical ligand binding properties.

Genetic variants of various cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes significantly impact pharmacokinetics. The highly polymorphic hepatic CYP2C9 metabolizes ~ 15% of clinically used drugs. This study aimed to characterize the ligand-binding properties of the understudied CYP2C9.57 variant (N204H mutation located in the active site) using spectrophotometric titration with diverse ligands. Type I ligands (diclofenac, tamoxifen) produced unusual reverse type II spectral responses (λmax ~ 410 nm and λmin 430-437 nm), while diclofenac, cyproconazole, and fluconazole showed spectral transitions suggesting dua

A two-state allosteric model for autoinhibition rationalizes WASP signal integration and targeting.

Remodeling of the actin cytoskeleton is controlled by signaling pathways that include the Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein (WASP). WASP is regulated by autoinhibition, and the intramolecular contacts that inactivate the protein can be relieved through binding to the Rho-family GTPase Cdc42. Here, we show that the allosteric regulation of WASP can be quantitatively described by a two-state equilibrium between an active, largely unfolded conformation that is able to stimulate the Arp2/3 complex, and an inactive, folded conformation. The model is parameterized by the stability of WASP against unf

A Molecular Playground for Spin-State Ice and Coupled Electron-Spin Dynamics.

The development of molecular materials that combine spin-crossover (SCO) and metal-to-metal electron transfer (MMET) in a single system remains a fundamental challenge due to their strongly coupled nature and ultrashort-lived intermediate states. Here we present a series of cyanide-bridged {W6Co9} clusters, [Co@{W(CN)8}6{Co(L)}6{Co(H2O)x(MeOH)3-x}2]·sol {L = 2,2,2-tris(1H-pyrazolyl)ethanol, x = 3, sol = MeOH (1) and EtOH (3); L = 1,1',1″-(2-(allyloxy)ethane-1,1,1-triyl)tris(1H-pyrazole), x = 2, sol = 4H2O (2)}, that exhibit unprecedented coexistence of reversible SCO, MMET, and photoinduced sl

Cleaner shrimp use a rocking dance to advertise cleaning service to clients.

Signals transmit information to receivers about sender attributes, increase the fitness of both parties, and are selected for in cooperative interactions between species to reduce conflict [1, 2]. Marine cleaning interactions are known for stereotyped behaviors [3-6] that likely serve as signals. For example, "dancing" and "tactile dancing" in cleaner fish may serve to advertise cleaning services to client fish [7] and manipulate client behavior [8], respectively. Cleaner shrimp clean fish [9], yet are cryptic in comparison to cleaner fish. Signals, therefore, are likely essential for cleaner
