Canaliculitis is a rare disease of the lacrimal pathway, especially of the canaliculi. It is often not identified, therefore misdiagnosed and inadequately treated. It accounts 2 % of all lacrimal diseases. False diagnoses are usually conjunctivitis, blepharitis, dacryocystitis, hordeolum and chalazion. Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CLDO) is considered as common and onerous disorder present at infancy. Over 5% of infants have CLDO affecting one or both eyes. The symptoms of CLDO appear shortly after birth or during the first weeks of life. The main symptoms are: excessive and persistent watering, ropy mucous discharge in the conjunctival sac. A comparative study was made of endonasal dacryorhinostomy using either a 0 degree or 30 degrees rigid endoscope or a Zeiss operating microscope in 25 patients with chronic epiphora and complete stenosis of the nasolacrimal duct confirmed by dacryocystography. The success rate in both groups was similar (80%). Computed tomography is useful in post-traumatic cases.

Concurrent orbital pseudotumor and Crohn's disease, although rare, have been described. To the best of our knowledge, pseudotumor isolated to the lacrimal gland (dacryoadenitis) with concurrent Crohn's disease has never been reported. We present the clinical course and ultrasonographic and radiologic findings of an acute case of isolated bilateral lacrimal gland pseudotumor in a patient with Crohn's disease. The treatment and review of the literature are discussed.

Patients who suffer from epiphora can benefit from reconstructive surgery in many cases of obstructive and nonobstructive lesions of the lacrimal apparatus. We describe our technique of digital subtraction macrodacryocystography (DSM) and discuss its efficacy in the evaluation of various abnormalities involving the lacrimal drainage pathway. A variety of pathologic conditions of the lacrimal apparatus are portrayed. DSM is an accurate, easy to perform, but relatively unrecognized method of anatomic localization of obstructive lesions within the lacrimal drainage system.
