We have established a cell line (TB) from a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimen of a patient with a primary leptomeningeal melanomatosis. TB cell line was immunoreactive with the antibodies for low molecular weight neurofilament protein, vimentin, neuron-specific enolase, chromogranin, synaptophysin and HMB-45 (an antibody sensitive and specific for melanoma). Vimentin, smooth muscle actin, and muscle specific actin were generally positive, but desmin was negative in all but one tumor. These results suggest that at least four of the five tumors of uncertain diagnosis were SSTs that had undergone end-stage sclerosis and calcification.

From a review of a series of 1,474 intracranial tumors occurring in children, we identified 49 patients (3.3%) with primary intracranial germ cell tumors: 65% germinomatous, 26% nongerminomatous (8 teratomas, 3 endodermal sinus, and 2 choriocarcinomas), and 8 degrees 10 mixed. Four cases of thymic hyperplasia (TH) and/or lymphoid hyperplasia (LH) were investigated immunohistochemically for evidence of myoid cell (MC) and epithelial cell (EC) differentiation using antibodies to myoglobin, desmin, and cytokeratin. BACKGROUND: Although rare, pregnant women can present with fibroepithelial polyps of the vagina. Most likely hormonally related, these polyps have been described in various locations of the lower female genital tract. They can be mistaken for malignant lesions due to hypercellularity and cytologic atypia.
CASE: We describe the case of a 31-year-old woman who presented with a polyp of the vagina during a postpartum visit.
RESULTS: Atypical cells were seen in hypercellular areas of the stroma of the polyp.

Rhabdomyomas are benign tumors in which at least some cells are differentiated as skeletal muscle cells with cytoplasmic cross-striations. Extracardiac adult rhabdomyoma is an extremely uncommon benign neoplasm that usually involves the head and neck region. Rare cases have been reported to involve other sites of the body including mediastinum. We report the fourth case of mediastinal adult rhabdomyoma.

We investigated the structural organization of the choroid especially with regard to the presence of extravascular smooth muscle (EVSM) cells in albino rabbits. The eyes were fixed by intracardiac perfusion and processed for light, confocal, and electron microscopy.
