The aim of the study was to investigate lung function and morphology in newborn rabbits with acute respiratory failure induced by airway instillation of albumin and to test whether the therapeutic effect of exogenous modified natural surfactant could be enhanced by addition of dextran. This study prepared core-shell type nanoparticles of a poly(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) grafted-dextran. The synthesis of the PLGA-dextran conjugate was confirmed by Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The anti-infectious activity of the C-79 preparation was examined on mice intravenously infected with Shigella sonnei dysentery of phase I. The activity of the preparation was determined taking into account the number of bacteria cultured from the organs of the examined animals and the number of animals surviving the infection as compared with the control. C-79 preparation administered to the mice before the infection was observed to protect then from death almost in 100%. The activity of the preparation differed according to the strategy of administration.

Radiological thrombosis was demonstrated on six occasions in the leg veins in 66 patients following the placement of 71 femoropopliteal bypass grafts.
