A 7-year 8-month-old girl was diagnosed with a prolonged course of vulvovaginitis caused by Shigella flexneri. The child was symptomatic with intermittent vaginal bleeding, dysuria and foul smelling vaginal discharge for a 3-year period. Initial attempts to resolve the infection with successive courses of antibiotic therapy using ampicillin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, cefixime and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid failed. The child's infection was finally resolved by a 14-day course of ciprofloxacin.

Many prostatic cancer patients have local symptoms such as dysuria and hematuria, but relatively few are seen with lung metastasis. This time we experienced 2 cases of prostatic cancer with a lung metastasis focus as the first symptom. Administration of diethylstilbestrol 500 mg/day for 20 days produced marked effects; reduction or disappearance of the lung metastasis focus, noticeable reduction of prostatic tumor and the improvement of their total condition. The literature is also reviewed.

Fifty patients with intractable pain, mainly of neoplastic origin, were treated by morphine through unidose drug delivery system. Criteria of selection of the patients and technical procedures are reported. Most common side effects are nausea and dysuria but can be effectively prevented. The most severe complications are leakage of cerebro spinal fluid with or without meningitis. The success rate at 20 days is 80% as well in pelvic pain as in subdiaphragmatic extra cephalic pain.

Two patients with ectopic kidney are described here. One was a 33-year-old male with hypertension and heavy proteinuria. The other was a 30-year-old male who had hypospaedia complained of dysuria for 30 years. These two cases were correctly diagnosed after radiographical examinations. Early detection of this disease can be achieved by using some radiographical techniques which is important in managing the future course of patients with ectopic kidney.

A case of anterior sacral meningocele which was clearly visualized on whole body computerized tomography is presented. Posterior surgical approach with ligation of the narrow communication between the sacral dural sac and the meningocele alleviated the subjective complaints of a feeling of abdominal distention and of dysuria. For the purpose of postoperative follow-up study, examination by whole body computerized tomography proved to be the best method of evaluating the size of the meningocele and also the state of neighbouring structures.

An unusual case of fungus ball formation of Aspergillus in the bladder without any evidence of disseminated and renal aspergillosis is presented. A 49-year-old man whose chief complaint was progressively worsening dysuria after a stomach operation was admitted. Cystoscopy revealed many ball-like masses on the retrotrigone and left wall. Histological studies showed that these masses were composed of many Aspergilli. The uniqueness of the case and the route of infection are discussed.

A 48-year-old man who had returned from Panama 5 weeks prior presented with fever, dysuria, hematuria, flank pain, and suprapubic pain and was found to have a prostatic abscess. Abscess fluid obtained during transurethral drainage grew Burkholderia pseudomallei. Blood cultures remained negative, and imaging did not show any other visceral abscess. This presentation of primary prostatic melioidosis is extremely rare in this region.
