Low E-visibility of embryologists on fertility clinic websites: a web-based cross-sectional study.

PURPOSE: This study assessed the visibility of embryologists on fertility clinic websites among Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) member clinics. METHODS: During a 1-month interval (March 2022), all Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) member fertility clinic websites were evaluated. The professional representation of the primary care team was examined including specialties, the presence of headshots, and biographies. RESULTS: A total of 446…

[Comparison of human chorionic gonadotropin (Pregnyl 10 000 IU i.m.) versus GnRH agonist (triptorelin 0,2 mg s.c.) for final oocytes maturation in the same egg donors--clinical and embryological characteristics].

OBJECTIVE: To compare clinical and embryological characteristics in donor cycles triggered for final oocytes maturation with Pregnyl 10 000 IU i.m. versus triptorelin 0.2 mg s.c. in the same patients in two sequential stimulation cycles. The aim of the study is to decrease the risk of the development of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) at high response donors by the replacement of Pregnyl 10 000 IU i.m. vs. triptorelin 0.2 mg s.c. The administration of a single dose of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (triptorelin 0.2 mg s.c.) induces release of LH from the pituitary gland simila

Ectopic renal tissue associated with an undescended testis: a case report.

We report a unique case of isolated ectopic renal tissue associated with an undescended testis. The pathological findings are outlined, and the embryology of renal and testicular development is reviewed. A possible explanation for ectopic renal tissue associated with an undescended testis is presented in conjunction with the normal embryology.

Radiologic imaging of splenic anomalies.

Knowledge of the anatomy, embryology, and congenital anomalies of the spleen is needed in order to avoid pitfalls in the interpretation of abdominal imaging studies such as CT and sonography. For this reason, this pictorial essay illustrates the anatomy, embryology, and radiologic images of congenital anomalies of the spleen.

Congenital anomalies of the esophagus.

Normal anatomy, embryology, and congenital anomalies of the esophagus are discussed in this article. The classification, epidemiology, embryology, diagnosis, and management, including outcome following repair of esophageal atresia with or without an associated tracheoesophageal fistula, are described. The diagnosis and management of less common anomalies, such as congenital esophageal stenosis and congenital esophageal duplication, are outlined.

Intraorbital ophthalmic aneurysms and arteriovenous fistulae.

Angiographically documented aneurysms and arteriovenous fistulae of the intraorbital segment of the ophthalmic artery are extremely rare. A unique patient is presented who had both lesions within the same orbit. History of this disease entity is traced briefly, pertinent anatomy and embryology are reviewed, and an explanation is offered on the pathogenesis of these lesions based on embryology.

Four women whose pioneering contributions to science have been largely overlooked.

Ethel Browne Harvey and Hilde Pröscholdt Mangold did pioneering research in embryology, Ida Henrietta Hyde helped develop the first microelectrodes for the stimulation of single cells, and Marthe Gautier had a vital role in discovering that Down syndrome is caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21. So why are their names so little known by the scientific community at large?

Animated teaching improves student learning of human gastrulation and neurulation.

Human embryology is a complex topic that brings together core components of anatomy and physiology to describe the developmental process from fertilisation to birth. Embryonic development is a challenging topic of study that is core to the curricula for health science students. There are challenges ingrained in teaching and learning embryology, due to the three-dimensional dynamic processes that occur as the embryo develops. This study aimed to develop and assess two newly developed animations depicting key processes in embryology, namely gastrulation and neurulation, as supplemental learning …

The pathogenesis of omphalocele and gastroschisis : An unsolved problem.

The embryology of gastroschisis and omphalocele remains a matter of speculation. Most authors still assume that they represent separate entities with a different pathology and embryology. In contrast, others feel that gastrochisis is simply the end-result of a ruptured omphalocele. Reviewing the current literature on the normal and abnormal embryology of the anterior abdominal wall, it becomes obvious that appropriate embryological knowledge of these processes is still missing. Animal models are not at hand that would allow clear definitions of morphological changes unique to either malformati…

ESHRE Clinical Embryologist certification: the first 10 years.

STUDY QUESTION: What has the ESHRE programme 'ESHRE Certification for Clinical Embryologists' achieved after 10 years? SUMMARY ANSWER: The post-exam analysis showed a pass rate of 60% for Clinical and 50% for Senior Clinical Embryologists and a high level of internal consistency of all exams, leading to a total of 773 certified Clinical and 493 Senior Clinical Embryologists over the decade. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: In an ESHRE survey on the educational and professional status of Clinical Embryology in Europe, it was found that education of laboratory personnel working in the field of assisted …
