Chapter 9.4: Operative Treatment and Monitoring of Coronal Caries in Daily Practice.

After the caries lesion reaches a certain extent of tooth structure loss, a restoration is often needed to repair the defect. Operative interventions in cariology aim to aid biofilm removal and lesion arrest by cavity sealing, avoid pulpal damage, and restore form, function, and esthetics. There are no clear evidence-based parameters to determine the most appropriate treatment option for each clinical situation. Despite of this, direct composite resins have been the preferable restorative treatment. Scientific literature shows that composites and adhesive strategies play a minor role in treatm

Public Valuations of Managing Compromised Molars: A Discrete Choice Experiment.

There is limited evidence to support optimal patient-centered management for compromised first permanent molars (cFPM) in children. Based on an online discrete choice experiment (DCE), this study elicits UK adult general population preferences and calculates willingness to pay (WTP) for pathways to manage cFPM. The DCE was designed with information from semistructured interviews and literature reviews, as well as focus groups with an expert panel of dentists, citizens, and policy makers. A statistically optimal D-efficient design generated 18 choice tasks, split across 2 blocks. Each responden

TRPV1-linked neuropeptide axes in periodontitis and peri-implantitis.

Periodontitis and peri-implantitis are the two most prevalent destructive diseases encountered in clinical dentistry, both of which arise from complex interactions among microbial challenge, host immune responses, and bone metabolism. Although these conditions share similar clinical manifestations, accumulating evidence indicates that the peripheral nervous system plays fundamentally distinct roles in their pathogenesis. In this narrative review, a structured literature search was conducted across multiple databases to synthesize and weigh current evidence on neuro-osteo-immune regulation in o

The methodological quality of systematic reviews comparing temporomandibular joint disorder surgical and non-surgical treatment.

BACKGROUND: Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD) are multifactor, complex clinical problems affecting approximately 60-70% of the general population, with considerable controversy about the most effective treatment. For example, reports claim success rates of 70% and 83% for non-surgical and surgical treatment, whereas other reports claim success rates of 40% to 70% for self-improvement without treatment. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to (1) identify systematic reviews comparing temporomandibular joint disorder surgical and non-surgical treatment, (2) evaluate their methodologic

Sudden onset, acute loss of taste and smell in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Early detection, isolation and management of COVID-19 are crucial to contain the current pandemic. US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently included 'sudden loss of taste (dysgeusia/ageusia) and smell (anosmia/hyposmia)' as symptoms of COVID-19. If indeed these symptoms are reliable and specific forerunner symptoms of COVID-19, then it may facilitate detection and containment of the disease. Hence, we systematically evaluated the contemporary evidence on dysgeusia and anosmia as trigger prodromal symptoms, and their prevalence in COVID-19 patients. METHODS: Ovi
