Development and Effects of a Metaverse-Based Generative AI Nursing Informatics Competency Education Program for Clinical Nurses.

Background/Objectives: The integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) into healthcare has expanded the competencies required of clinical nurses. However, existing nursing informatics education programs do not adequately prepare nurses to use generative AI effectively and ethically in clinical practice. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a metaverse-based generative AI nursing informatics competency education program for clinical nurses. Methods: A randomized controlled pretest-posttest design was employed. Forty-eight clinical nurses were randomly assigned to an intervention

Quality indicators for a community-based wound care centre: An integrative review.

The purpose of this review was to identify the role and contribution of community-based nurse-led wound care as a service delivery model. Centres increasingly respond proactively to assess and manage wounds at all stages - not only chronic wound care. We conducted an integrative review of literature, searching five databases, 2007-2018. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, we systematically approached article selection and all three authors collaborated to chart the study variables, evaluate data, and synthesise results. Eighteen studies were included, representing a range of care models

Nursing and precision oncology: Scoping review.

PURPOSE: Next-generation sequencing (NGS) integration has established Molecular Tumor Boards (MTBs) as the standard for personalized oncology care. However, specific nursing genomic competencies and clinical functions required remain poorly defined. This scoping review maps existing evidence to identify essential genomic knowledge, specialized nursing roles, and educational or regulatory barriers to integration. METHOD: Following JBI methodology and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, six databases and grey literature were searched for studies published between 2010 and 2025. The review analyzed 24 source

From Theory to Competence: A Conceptual Review of Humanized Care in Community Nursing in the Ecuadorian Context.

Community nursing in Latin America requires a shift from control-oriented biomedical models toward relational and culturally responsive approaches capable of addressing persistent structural inequalities and intercultural complexity. This review develops the Relate-Capacity-Comfort (RCC) framework. This integrated model synthesizes three foundational nursing theories: Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring, Dorothea Orem's Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory, and Katharine Kolcaba's Comfort Theory. The framework conceptualizes community nursing as a sequential process comprising relational engageme

Enteral nutrition for older adults in nursing facilities.

Older adults who reside in nursing facilities tend to be frail and to have multiple comorbidities, increased risk of unintended weight loss, and protein energy malnutrition. Approximately 5.8% of nursing facility residents in the United States receive enteral feedings. The prevalence is higher for residents with cognitive impairment, ranging from 18% to 34%. In cognitively impaired residents, the majority of tube feeding placements occur in the acute care setting and result in significant use of additional healthcare resources and high postinsertion mortality rates within 60 days of insertion.

Achieving 'parity of esteem': how educators can enhance the teaching and assessment of communication skills.

The commitment to give equal priority to mental and physical health (parity of esteem) guides the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Future Nurse Standards of Proficiency - a generic set of standards for nurse education. However, a recent national survey revealed that nursing students reported that the specific communication skills needed to address mental health problems are missing from practice assessments. This article reviews the current use of practice assessment documentation in which communication and relationship management skills are interpreted as 'professional values' rather than expl

Use of home telemedicine for critical illness rehabilitation: an Indian success story.

One-fifth of healthcare beneficiaries in developed nations get discharged from hospitals to physician supervised skilled nursing care facilities. In low-income and middle-income countries like India, postdischarge skilled nursing facilities are at a very nascent stage and largely underequipped in terms of infrastructure, skilled nursing and physician staff to manage complicated patients. Hence the responsibility of management of such patients lies largely with their families. We present a case where a 26-year-old man with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who became ventilator dependent following ma

Stereotyping and nurses' recommendations for treating pain in hospitalized children.

The purpose of this study was to examine whether nurses' recommendations for managing children's pain were influenced by stereotypes based on children's personal attributes. Three vignettes, in which hospitalized children's sex, race, and attractiveness were experimentally manipulated, were mailed to a national random sample of 700 pediatric nurses; 334 nurses responded. Responses to vignette questions indicated little evidence of stereotyping. Nurses perceived similar levels of pain and recommended similar pain treatments, regardless of sex, race, and attractiveness. Nurses, on average, perce

Review of epidemiological studies on the occupational risk of tuberculosis in low-incidence areas.

This review summarizes the epidemiological evidence for occupationally acquired tuberculosis and considers the implications for the prevention of tuberculosis. The relevant epidemiological studies were identified on the basis of the Medline data bank, starting with the year 1966. The evaluation of occupational groups with an elevated tuberculosis risk is exclusively based on epidemiologic studies of good or acceptable quality, applying clearly defined criteria of methodological quality. In summary, the available epidemiological evidence suggests that the risk of tuberculosis is elevated in the

Low Back Pain, Pain Beliefs, Fear-Avoidance, and Self-Activation in Nursing Students.

BACKGROUND: Nursing students are at increased risk for low back pain due to physical and psychological stressors encountered during nursing education. Low back pain can interfere with academic performance, clinical readiness, and long-term career sustainability. PURPOSE: This study examined the prevalence of low back pain among nursing students and explored how pain-related beliefs, fear-avoidance beliefs, self-activation, and pain intensity are associated with health-related quality of life. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 200 nursing students enrolled in traditional a

The efficacy of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists for the prevention of postoperative vomiting following craniotomy: two studies in children and young adults.

The purpose of this meta-analysis was to estimate the efficacy of prophylactic administration of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists for postoperative vomiting (POV) in pediatric craniotomy patients at 24 hours. By updating a previously published systematic literature search, we found a recently published pediatric study to combine with the one already identified. The two published randomized placebo-controlled trials were combined for a total of 135 participants aged 2 to 20 (79 treatment and 56 controls). The only study drug was ondansetron. The combined relative risk (RR) of vomiting was not statist

Breast cancer in African American women: nursing essentials.

Breast cancer impacts all population groups. However, when measures of mortality and length of survival are compared by racial/ethnic groups, African American women are noted to bear a disproportionate burden. In an era where evidence-based practice is the standard, it is imperative that nurses engaged in practice with women within acute care and community-based settings, have a breadth of knowledge of the anatomy and pathophysiology of breast cancer, are knowledgeable of the standards of breast care, and knowledgeable of the availability and accessibility of breast care resources within their
