A case of labio-facial necrotizing fasciitis complicating acne.

BACKGROUND: Facial necrotizing fasciitis is extremely rare. Most of the cases reported in literature are related to dental, sinus, tonsillar and salivary glands causes, but rarely as consequence of skin infection. We report a unique case of lower lip cellulitis, which was initially misdiagnosed as angioedema and subsequently progressed into lower lip necrotizing fasciitis. CASE PRESENTATION: This is a case report of necrotizing fasciitis involving the lower lip as a consequence of infected skin acne in a 19 year old black female. The patient had been diagnosed earlier as a case of angioedema

Necrotizing Fasciitis of the Breast Requiring Emergent Radical Mastectomy.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare, aggressive, soft-tissue infection that results in necrosis of skin, subcutaneous tissue, and fascia. It spreads rapidly and may progress to sepsis, multi-organ failure, and death. Predisposing conditions include diabetes, chronic alcoholism, advanced age, vascular disease, and immunosuppression and many cases are preceded by an injury or invasive procedure. Necrotizing soft-tissue infection of the breast is uncommon, with only a few reported cases in the literature. We present a 53-year-old diabetic woman who presented to the emergency room with several weeks o

Listeria Monocytogenes: an uncommon pathogen of cervical necrotizing fasciitis.

The aim of this paper is to present a unique case of neck-necrotizing fasciitis caused by Listeria Monocytogenes in a young woman, successfully treated by surgery and IV antibiotic therapy. Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare, rapidly progressing and potentially life-threatening infection that infrequently occurs in the head and neck region. Pathogens involved in necrotizing fasciitis are heterogeneous and include aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only case of neck necrotizing fasciitis caused by Listeria Monocytogenes studied in literature so far.

Necrotizing fasciitis of the neck: considerations about two cases.

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapidly progressing life-threatening infection of the deep fat and fascial layers, which rarely occurs in the neck. The aim of the paper is to report the management of this rare condition, pointing out the role of multimodality in achieving the cure of the patient. METHODS: We report our experience regarding the management of two cases of necrotizing fasciitis of the neck successfully treated with surgical and medical treatment. DISCUSSION: Early diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis of the neck plays a central role in preventing progre

[Clinical analysis of 29 cases of cervical necrotizing fasciitis].

OBJECTIVE: To study the experience of clinical features and treatment of deep cervical necrotizing fasciitis. METHOD: All 29 cases of cervical necrotizing fasciitis patients were diagnosed by CT, 12 cases underwent tracheostomies, lateral neck incisions and drainage operations, the other 17 patients underwent lateral neck incisions and drainage operations. Sequently washing, dressing changes and anti infection treatments were taken. RESULT: Twenty-eight cases were cured, 1 cases died. During a follow-up of half a year,no relapse. CONCLUSION: When patient was sufferd the cervical necrotizing

Ascending necrotizing fasciitis of the face following odontogenic infection.

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) of the face is a rare but extremely dangerous complication of dental infection associated with a nearly 30% mortality rate. This infection spreads rapidly along the superficial fascial planes of the head and neck and can lead to severe disfigurement. Reports in the literature of cases of NF of the face caused by dental infection are few. We report such a case in a 36-year-old woman and review the current standards of diagnosis and management. The patient initially presented with pain and severe swelling in the left side of her face subsequent to a dental infection. T

Klebsiella pneumoniae cervical necrotizing fasciitis originating as an abscess.

Cervical necrotizing fasciitis is a rapidly progressive and devastating infection that is usually caused by a polymicrobial infection including group A Streptococcus and anaerobes. We present a case of a newly diagnosed diabetic man who underwent transoral drainage of a Klebsiella pneumoniae paraglottic abscess, which, despite culture-directed antibiotics, progressed to cervical necrotizing fasciitis with descending mediastinitis. The patient required 12 surgical debridements and sternotomy, but survived and was discharged on hospital day 40. To our knowledge, this is the first case of cervica

Klebsiella pneumoniae necrotizing fasciitis in a Latin American male.

Necrotizing fasciitis, caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae, is a rare and life-threatening bacterial infection. Most documented cases have been reported from Asia, particularly associated with diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of this infection in the USA is rare, especially among persons of non-Asian descent and those without travel to Asia. We report a case of disseminated necrotizing fasciitis, caused by K. pneumoniae, in a Latin American male with diabetes mellitus. Given our review of the literature, this is the only case report, to our knowledge, of a Latin American patient with Klebsiella n

Necrotizing fasciitis of face--our experience in its management.

Necrotising fasciitis (NF) is a severe soft tissue infection which spreads rapidly through fascial planes, characterised by soft tissue necrosis and potentially life threatening. Involvement of the face from NF is rare. Only 35 such cases have been reported in the literature since 1960. It is associated with a high mortality and results in severe disfigurement of the face, posing challenging reconstructive problems. The authors present their experience on the comprehensive management of NF of face with severe disfigurement affecting a young female patient.

Craniocervical necrotizing fasciitis of odontogenic origin with thoracic extension.

Craniocervical necrotizing fasciitis is an uncommon but aggressive infection with high morbidity and mortality. We present a case of craniocervical necrotizing fasciitis with thoracic extension caused by a dental infection in a 56-year-old man, with a successful outcome involving broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics and an aggressive surgical debridement.

Surgical management of axillary necrotizing fasciitis: a case report.

Axillary necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is quite rare and requires special management with respect to debridement and delayed surgical reconstruction. A 76-year-old man presented to our emergency department with a 2-day history of high fever, severe left axillary pain and redness. A few hours later, he developed discoloration and hemorrhagic bulla in the axilla, and the redness enlarged on the trunk. Emergency surgical debridement was performed. The blackish necrosis in the axilla was completely excised and the erythematous areas in the chest wall were cut down to the level of the fascia. Split-th

Treating necrotizing fasciitis with or without hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

There is not enough clinical data to support the benefit of adjuvant HBO2 therapy for necrotizing fasciitis (NF). We retrospectively reviewed our 67 NF cases to compare the outcomes of adjuvant HBO2 therapy versus non-HBO2 therapy. The overall outcome and morbidity criteria were compared between a group of 29 NF patients who received the adjuvant HBO2 and a group of the remaining 38 NF patients treated by only surgery and other standards of care. This study did not find any difference between the groups in average length of hospital stay, and their mortality. However, six (25%) of the non-HBO2

Necrotizing fasciitis: early detection may save your patient's limb.

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rapidly spreading infection affecting the subcutaneous soft tissue. Because of its rapid progression and high mortality, it is essential that the patient is diagnosed and treated early. Over the past century and a half, little has changed in the mortality of this disease. The orthopaedic nurse is in a key position to assist with the early detection and treatment of NF. In the following article, the pathophysiology, early disease detection, diagnostic and treatment challenges, and appropriate nursing interventions will be discussed as it relates to improving the
