UNLABELLED: Ingested toothpick is an unusual occurrence in clinical practice. This is a medical emergency and all effort should be made to localize the toothpick and appropriate intervention instituted. We report a case of accidentally ingested toothpick with successful endoscopic removal in a case of a 24year old male who presented for open access endoscopy with complaint of abdominal pain. During endoscopy a foreign body (sharp object) was seen partially embedded at the gastric antrum which was later identified as a wooden toothpick. CASE DESCRIPTION A 17-month-old sexually intact male Vizsla and a 2-year-old spayed female mixed-breed dog were examined because of suspected intrathoracic grass awn migration. CLINICAL FINDINGS Thoracic CT revealed focal areas of pulmonary infiltration in the right caudal lung lobe in one dog and in the left caudal lung lobe in the other. In 1 patient, bronchoscopy revealed 2 grass awns in the bronchi. Results of thoracic radiography and bronchoscopy were unremarkable in the second patient; however, a grass awn was recovered from the tonsillar crypt during oropharyngeal examination. TREATMENT

BACKGROUND: Gossypiboma is a term used to describe a mass that forms around a cotton sponge or abdominal compress accidentally left in a patient during surgery. Transmural migration of an intra-abdominal gossypiboma has been reported to occur in the digestive tract, bladder, vagina and diaphragm. Migration of a coil during endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysm occurs in 2-6% of cases. The consequences of coil migration vary significantly from minor flow alterations of the parent artery which are asymptomatic to thromboembolic occlusion of major intracranial vessels resulting in large territory infarcts. A 41-year-old unemployed construction worker with a background of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, hypertension, chronic kidney disease stage 3, previous incisor tooth abscess aged 9, for which he was fitted with metal dentures, underwent a right below knee amputation. Postoperative day 8 he experienced episodes of dysphagia and vomiting postparandial. CT thorax revealed a foreign body in the midline region of the mediastinum. After two failed attempts at endoscopic extraction of the metal denture, the patient underwent surgical extraction of his metal denture.

One of the major complications of conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy is Jones tube extrusion postoperatively. Various tube modifications have been described to promote tube stability. While these variants have been shown to be successful; on occasion, tube extrusion can be recurrent, leading to patient and surgeon frustration and ongoing symptoms. In this case report the author's describe a method of Jones tube fixation which mechanically prevents tube extrusion.

Ventriculoperitoneal shunts are associated with multiple complications. Among them are disconnection and migration of the tubing into the peritoneal cavity. Here we describe a case of a fractured ventriculoperitoneal shunt which migrated and coiled in the scrotum, masquerading as a scrotal swelling. Removal of the shunt via a scrotal incision was performed concomitantly with repair of the hernia sac.

A 42-year-old female patient presented with acute pain of the upper abdomen, postprandial vomiting and hematemesis. An operation for gastric banding had been carried out 1 month prior to presentation. BACKGROUND: In 5% of endoscopically inserted biliary stents distal migration occurs. Mostly the endoprostheses pass the intestine spontaneously. In some patients the stent does not pass and causes complications such as perforation, fistulae and abscess formation.
CASE STUDY: A 76-year-old woman with choledocholithiasis received endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). A stone was crushed and a plastic endoprosthesis inserted. After six months the patient returned with relapsing urinary tract infections. A CT scan showed the stent perforating the sigmoid and stuck in the bladder.

An intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is one of the most common forms of contraception in use worldwide today. It is associated with a myriad of problems and complications, one of which is the missing IUCD. It is a known fact that IUCDs can perforate the uterus resulting in its subsequent relocation in other organs within the pelvis and the abdomen. INTRODUCTION: Intrauterine device (IUD) application has been used for over 30 years and is a widely accepted contraception method among women because of its low-complication rates. The use of intrauterine devices may cause complications but migration of the IUD into an adjacent organ is rarely encountered.
CASE: In the present report, we present a 26-year-old patient to whom IUD had been applied 2 years ago and whose examination performed due to pain and urinary complaints revealed migration of the uterine device into the bladder.

We present a case of successful laparoscopic retrieval of a perforated intrauterine device (Lippes loop). The Lippes loop was inserted after manual intrauterine adhesiolysis as a treatment of uterine synaechia presenting as secondary amenorrhoea of 20 months duration. Postoperative complications of scleral buckling surgery are various. The anterior migration through the rectus muscles and positioning in the corneoscleral junction is an atypical and undocumented complication. The authors describe a patient with a migration and straddling of the encircling buckle in the corneoscleral junction 2 years after a classic retinal surgery with an encircling solid silicone buckle. A previously unreported late complication of a transanastomotic stent across a pancreaticotojejunostomy is described. The stent migrated distally into the jejunal lumen, through the biliary anastomis into the bile duct and proximally into the liver where it served as a nidus for infection with abscess formation. A percutaneous transhepatic interventional radiologic approach both drained the abscess and pushed the stent out of the liver and biliary tree and into the bowel, with complete recovery. A 32-year-old morbidly obese woman with an obstructing dislocated gastric band is presented. Because of prolonged vomiting, a metabolic alkalosis would be expected, but instead an impressive high anion gap acidosis was observed. Because of a highly positive urine ketone test and a high serum concentration of beta-hydroxybutyrate, a ketoacidosis caused by starvation appears to be the primary cause of this metabolic acidosis. This type of acidosis was treated successfully with intravenous administration of glucose and insulin as well as sodium bicarbonate, with urgent removal of the band.
