INTRODUCTION: A bilateral shoulder dislocation is an extremely rare injury with only a few reported cases in English literature, and most of these cases have occurred following a seizure episode or an electric shock. We present the first ever reported case of simultaneous bilateral anterior and posterior fracture dislocation of shoulders and its unique mechanism of injury in a 48 year old diabetic male.
CASE REPORT: A 48 year old male presented to our emergency department with pain and restriction of movements involving both shoulders following a fall. The patient was standing by the side of …

Scaphoid dislocation is a rare injury. Traditionally it has been classified into isolated dislocation and dislocation associated with axial carpal disruption. We present a unique case of scaphoid dislocation associated with proximal migration of the entire distal carpal row as a single unit and hamate fracture with no axial carpal disruption. This injury complex has not been previously described in the literature. The purpose of this case report is to emphasize that in absence of axial carpal dissociation with scaphoid dislocation, a careful evaluation of injury to other bones should be done a

In this article, we present a case of humeral biepicondylar fracture dislocation concomitant with ulnar nerve injury in a seventeen year-old male patient. Physical examination of our patient in the emergency room revealed a painful, edematous and deformed-looking left elbow joint. Hypoesthesia of the little finger was also diagnosed on the left hand. Radiological assessment ended up with a posterior fracture dislocation of the elbow joint accompanied by intra-articular loose bodies. Open reduction-Internal fixation of the fracture dislocation and ulnar nerve exploration were performed under ge…

The authors describe their experience with treatment of two neurologically intact male patients, aged 70 and 74 years, presenting with combined lateral atlanto-axial dislocation and odontoid type II fracture. The mechanism of these two craniovertebral junction injuries had been lateroflexion of the neck. The initial attempt at closed reduction using axial traction failed. The authors succeeded with a closed reduction maneuver under general anaesthesia in the first patient in whom long-term stability was achieved by transarticular C2-C1 fixation, together with interlaminar fusion. In the second

Elbow dislocation with ipsilateral diaphyseal fracture of both radius and ulna is a rare injury. However, elbow dislocation with either radius or ulnar diaphyseal fracture is commonly reported. We report an uncommon injury of a 16 years old male who had his elbow dislocation with ipsilateral both bones forearm fractures. Elbow dislocation was reduced and fracture both bones were fixed with dynamic compression plate under brachial block.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a major subtype of the spondyloarthropathies. Uncoupling of bone formation and resorption along with ectopic ossification of paraspinal soft-tissue structures alters the biomechanics of the spine and leads to an increased susceptibility to fracture.
PURPOSE: To report on a thoracolumbar fracture dislocation sustained in a 33-year-old Gravida 2/Para 2 woman, which occurred during labor. Although there are several reports in the literature of thoracolumbar fracture dislocations sustained in patients with AS, none have been reported during child…

BACKGROUND: The main indications for surgery for old thoracolumbar fractures are pain, progressive deformity, neurological damage, or increasing neurological deficit. These fractures have been one of the greatest therapeutic challenges in spinal surgery. Anterior, posterior, or combined anterior and posterior procedures have been successful to some extent. As far as we know, there is no report in the literature of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) for old thoracolumbar fracture and dislocation.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 26-year-old man with old fracture and dislocation of

OBJECTIVE: To explore the choice of operative approach for old inferior-cervical fracture-dislocation and analyze the clinical effects of anterior operative approach.
METHODS: From January 2003 to May 2010, 17 patients with inferior-cervical fracture-dislocation delayed for more than 4 weeks were treated with continued closed skull traction and anterior decompression, bone graft and internal fixation with steel plate. Among the patients, 11 patients were male and 6 patients were female with an average age of 41 years (ranged from 24 to 56 years). The time between injury and operation was from

OBJECTIVE: The aims of the present study were to describe the technique of hip arthroscopy for osteochondral loose body removal after posterior hip dislocation and report its preliminary results.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: We reported consecutive patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for osteochondral fragment after sustaining fracture-dislocations. Seven patients who sustained traumatic hip dislocation with incarcerated osteochondral were included in this study. All patients had standard AP pelvis x-rays and 3D-CT scans. After closed reduction, all patients underwent hip arthroscopy in which loose b

Traumatic dislocations of the first metatarsophalangeal joint were first described by Mouchet in 1931. The anatomical complexity of the first metatarsophalangeal joint makes this injury one of a kind. There have been only been a limited number of case reports of this injury, but none in combination with open fractures of both sesamoids. We would like to report 1 case of an open traumatic dislocation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint with open fracture of the fibular and tibial sesamoid. Open reduction and internal fixation of the injury led to a successful outcome.

We describe a simple method of arthroscopic-assisted reduction of a posterior fracture dislocation of the proximal humerus, the principle of which could be used as a method of reduction for all fracture dislocations of the proximal humerus for which percutaneous reduction is beneficial. With the patient in the beach-chair position and using a posterior portal 2 cm medial and 2 cm inferior to the posterolateral corner of the acromion on the medial edge of the displaced head, a 4.5-mm blunt trocar is introduced, directed medial to the head fragment toward the posterior lateral scapular neck, tra…

The incidence of traumatic hip dislocation has increased in recent years as a result of high-energy trauma. Anterior hip dislocation forms less than 10-15% of all traumatic hip dislocations. Only a few case reports describe anterior dislocation along with acetabular fractures. The acetabular fracture involved the anterior wall or column in all such cases. We describe a rare case in which anterior superior dislocation of the hip was associated with a large fracture fragment of theposterior acetabular rim and adjacent wall.

There are only a few reported cases of compartment syndrome after an ankle fracture, and all have involved the deep posterior compartment. We present a case in which a patient had a Bosworth fracture-dislocation of the ankle, underwent open reduction internal fixation, and subsequently had an anterior compartment syndrome of the leg. Early recognition and prompt treatment are essential to avoid the late sequelae of compartment syndrome.

Seventy-three shoulders (66 patients) with posterior fracture-dislocation of the shoulder were treated. Thirty patients were treated during the acute phase. One case was classified as subspinous, and 56 were considered subacromial; 4 cases had posterior fracture-dislocation in three parts, 3 in four parts, and 9 at the anatomic neck. Treatment consisted of closed reduction and immobilization in the emergency department, McLaughlin's procedure, hemiarthroplasty, total shoulder, open reduction with internal fixation, arthroplastic resection, and arthrodesis. Ten shoulders were treated conservati

This report details a traumatic spinal column lesion due to a lap seat belt. A healthy 22-year-old woman was involved in a car accident and suffered a lumbar luxation fracture at the level L1-L2. She developed acute transsectional symptoms with paraplegia and severe hyperpathia in her legs. Plain radiographs (antero-posterior and lateral projection) and lumbar CT scans demonstrated an instable flexion-distraction fracture with ventral compression of the vertebral body of L2 and ventrolisthesis of L1 over L2. Surgical reposition of the luxation fracture and removal of a spinal epidural hematoma
