AIM: To investigate the association of fall risk with comorbidities and medications in geriatric outpatients in a cross-sectional design.
METHODS: A total of 262 outpatients (84 men and 178 women, mean age 76.2±6.8years) were evaluated. Physical examination, clinical histories and medication profile were obtained from each patient. History of falls in the past year, 22-item fall risk index, 13-point simple screening test for fall, and time interval of one-leg standing test were examined as markers of fall risk.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Age related decline in food intake is associated with various physiological, psychological and social factors. Our aim was to assess the nutritional status of our elderly patients and its association with other geriatric syndromes.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional population based study, Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) test was used to evaluate nutritional status of 413 elderly patients who were admitted to our outpatient clinic in the last 12 months. A 52-year-old geriatric nurse presented with recurrent eczema localized in uncovered skin areas. Patch testing produced an eczematous skin reaction with type IV sensitization totetrazepam. There is evidence that some elderly patients with chronic schizophrenia experience marked impairments in cognitive functioning. Assessment of these patients may be difficult with traditional neuropsychological measures. The purpose of the present study was to determine if cognitive functioning could be validly assessed with the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-Late Version Cognitive factor score (ADAS-L Cog) in patients whose scores on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) reflect profound cognitive impairment. With perseverance and patience, the physician can diagnose all but the most uncommon foot problems. Most foot disorders can be managed successfully, either conservatively or surgically.
