The subject of this study is serological screening of blood and CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) samples for the presence of borrelial and ehrlichial antibodies. A total of 165 patients suspected to be at risk of Lyme disease were tested. Indirect immunofluorescence and enzyme immunoassay were used as diagnostic methods. Ehrlichial antibodies were detected in 36 (21.8%) patients. Borrelial antibodies were found in 70 samples (42.4%). The widening range of tick-borne diseases brings about the need for more data on these zoonoses.

Granulocytic sarcoma in the female genital tract generally has a poor prognosis. We report the case of a 52-year-old nonleukemic patient with relapsed granulocytic sarcoma at the vaginal stump after an 11-year complete remission from the uterine cervix. Magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvis showed a pear-shaped mass arising from the vagina mimicking a normal uterus. The unusual clinical presentation and the difficulties encountered in evaluation are presented. A review of the literature indicates that survival is better with multimodality management and in patients without leukemia.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the roles of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor in the pathogenesis of moyamoya disease.
METHODS: Serum G-CSF concentrations were measured using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in 20 children with moyamoya disease and 20 healthy children.
RESULTS: Serum G-CSF concentration (35.7+/-10.3 pg/mL) in children with moyamoya disease was significantly higher than that in healthy controls (23.5+/-3.8 pg/mL) (p<0.01).
CONCLUSIONS: The elevated serum G-CSF concentration in children with moyamoya disease suggests that G-CSF may play an important role in the pathogenes

There is good evidence to suggest that dose intensity is important when considering the effectiveness of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer. In a retrospective review of all patients who visited our hospital between January 1997 and December 2001, we identified 22 with mediastinal lymphoma or mediastina granulocytic sarcoma. They represented 24.2% of the 91 patients with mediastinal tumors.
