Pituitary adenomas are extremely rare in prepubescent children. Most of these tumors are functioning adenomas, but can also present with vision disturbances and changes in body morphology. Finasteride (1 mg/day) is widely utilized by dermatologists for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. Although enjoying a relatively good safety profile, several sex-related adverse effects have been reported with this drug. Here we report two cases of gynecomastia, one of them bilateral, caused by Propecia((R)) prescribed for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. Although relatively rare, physicians should be aware of this side effect and inform their patients when prescribing this medication.

Non-steroidal antiandrogen monotherapy offers potential quality of life benefits over other treatment modalities in patients with prostate cancer. Nevertheless, gynecomastia and breast pain still represent the most bothersome side effects during this treatment. In this update article, recent advances in the management options for gynecomastia/breast pain caused by hormonal manipulation are reviewed and critically analyzed.

Use of anabolic steroids is one of many possible causes for gynecomastia. Optimal surgical treatment for this entity involves a combination of liposuction and direct excision. A series of 20 patients treated for anabolic steroid-induced gynecomastia presented. Postoperative complications included two hematomas, one seroma (bilateral), and three recurrences. Recurrence may be related hormonally active retained subareolar tissue.

Gynecomastia is benign enlargement of the male breast and is commonly drug induced. Various drugs are responsible and chemotherapeutic drugs can also cause gynecomastia. Cladribine is now widely used for the treatment of hairy cell leukaemia. We present a case report of development of unilateral gynecomastia in a case of hairy cell leukaemia treated with cladribine and question whether this was induced by the chemotherapy.

This paper reports a new technique for breast reduction in gynecomastia, removing the glandular parenchyma by pulling it through two incisions previously made for liposuction. These incisions are localized in the anterior axillary pilar area and on the right side of the inframammary fold. No complications have been reported in the 6-month follow-up visits of 11 patients. Previous criticism about suction lipectomy for the correction of gynecomastia was related to the cannulae available at the time. With the improved design and tensile strength of the cannula, gynecomastia can be more easily corrected. The procedure can be completed with more control of the final contour and with fewer complications. Prior to 1980, all patients had traditional excision, which was followed by a high incidence of complications and undesired sequelae, not the least of which was that the results of this aesthetic operation were often unaesthetic. Gynaecomastia is a frequent disorder, sometimes painful or psychologically disturbing. Percutaneous dihydrotestosterone (DHT) was used to treat 30 patients with idiopathic gynaecomastia (IG) and 17 patients in whom the condition was associated with hypogonadism. All patients complaining of pain were relieved. Breast enlargement regressed or was substantially reduced in 22 of the IG patients and in all cases with hypogonadism, except those with gonadal dysgenesis. Both ultrasonography and x-ray mammography were performed on a male patient who had breast carcinoma. While the x-ray mammographic features were highly suggestive of malignancy, the sonographic findings were subtle. Because of the technical difficulties associated with x-ray mammography of the male breast, ultrasound has been advocated for the evaluation of gynecomastia and breast masses in men.
