Continuity or Change: Occupational Health Policies of Key Organizations in Great Britain After the Major COVID Waves 2020-2022.

The neglect of occupational health and safety within Great Britain spans many decades. There has been limited or no recognition of many occupational diseases partly compounded by a chronically under-funded and under-staffed central and local government inspectorate. Workplace inspections have declined. Little enforcement, prosecution and fines of those breaching laws occur. With its departure from the European Union, Great Britain has further neglected hazards at work and has become even more committed to soft regulation and de facto deregulation under the guise of "better regulation" to suppo

Characterizing volatile organic compounds from personal protective equipment users: Implications to cleanroom air quality and occupational health.

Human-related contaminants are the primary pollution source in cleanrooms. This study employed time-of-flight mass spectrometry (PTR-ToF-MS) to characterize volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from breath and skin under different activity levels and personal protective equipment (PPE) conditions in a climatic chamber. The results show that, without PPE, breath and skin emission rates were 968.2 ± 350.8 μg h-1p-1 and 2115.8 ± 1813.7 μg h-1p-1, respectively. With PPE, breath emissions slightly increased to 1068.6 ± 472.7 μg h-1p-1, while skin emissions stabilized at 2181.1 ± 1302.5 μg h-1p

Whole-body inhalation study of nanoparticle-enhanced vegetable oil metalworking fluids in mice for assessing occupational health risks.

The increasing demand for sustainable machining necessitates the development and toxicological evaluation of environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional metalworking fluids (MWFs). This study investigated the respiratory and systemic effects of a nanoparticle-enhanced vegetable oil-based MWF (NPVO-MWF) using a whole-body inhalation exposure model in male C57BL/6 mice. Both sub-acute (4-week) and sub-chronic (13-week) exposures were performed, followed by detailed bioanalytical and histopathological assessments. Cytokine analyses (IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6) via ELISA and RT-PCR revealed no s

West Nile Virus Seroprevalence Among Outdoor Workers in Southern Italy: Unveiling Occupational Risks and Public Health Implications.

BACKGROUND: West Nile virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne RNA virus, with birds as reservoirs and humans as incidental hosts. WNV often causes asymptomatic infections, but severe neuroinvasive disease occurs in fewer than 1% of human cases. Recent climatic changes and occupational exposure have increased its spread, particularly in Southern Italy. This study aimed to assess WNV seroprevalence and occupational risks among outdoor workers to guide targeted public health interventions. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Apulia region, southeastern Italy, from November 2023 to A
