OBJECTIVE: To assess the burden of hospitalization for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and the impact of the new diagnostic criteria for acute myocardial infarction on epidemiology of ACSs.
METHODS: We analysed the hospital discharge record archives of the Veneto Region in the period 2000-2003, including admissions of regional residents outside the study area. We defined a list of ICD-9-CM codes for the identification of different types of ACS. The electronic medical record (EMR) is a major contributor to clinician workload, with substantial documentation often occurring outside scheduled patient care hours. In human medicine, after-hours EMR use has been associated with clinician burnout, yet it has not been objectively quantified among veterinary residents. BACKGROUND: The cooperative project "POLypharmacy, drug interActions and Risks" (POLAR_MI) of the Medical Informatics Initiative Germany (MII) aimed at detecting medication-related risks attributed to polymedication in adult patients from German university hospitals.
