Bacterial isolates from diabetic foot ulcers and their antimicrobial resistance profile from selected hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

INTRODUCTION: Infected diabetic foot ulcer (IDFU) is a worldwide problem associated with diabetes mellitus. It could lead from soft tissue infection to bone infection and is a leading cause of lower limb amputation. Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including anaerobic bacteria and fungi, are considered potential causes of infection. The early diagnosis of DFU infection and appropriate treatment based on the identification of the pathogens and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern is important for good prognosis. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to isolate the bacteria tha

Insights and genetic features of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing Escherichia coli isolates from two hospitals in Ghana.

Recently, the emergence and rapid dissemination of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria, particularly of the family Enterobacteriaceae, has posed serious healthcare challenges. Here, we determined the antimicrobial susceptibility and genetic characteristics of 164 Escherichia coli strains isolated from infected patients in two hospitals in Ghana. In total, 102 cefotaxime-resistant isolates (62.2%) were identified as ESBL-producers. Multilocus sequence typing of the ESBL-producers identified 20 different sequence types (STs) with ST131 (n = 25, 24.5%) as the dominant group

Antimicrobial susceptibility and genotyping of microorganisms isolated from sputum culture of children with cystic fibrosis in an Iranian referral children's hospital.

BACKGROUND: Chronic bacterial infections of the airways are present in most patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Although most pathogens are acquired from the environment, there is great evidence of patient-to-patient transmission. Therefore, evaluating the genetic variation of strains isolated from CF patients is recommended for the purpose of examining hospital infection. AIM: The aim of this study was to determine the antibiotic susceptibility pattern and genotyping of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated from sputum samples of children with CF referred to a sin
