This is a case report of juvenile gastrointestinal polyposis involving the gastrointestinal system from the stomach to the rectum. Only few cases have been reported and extra-intestinal manifestations of this syndrome include macrocephaly, hepatosplenomegaly, hypotonia, clubbing of fingers, anemia and protein-losing enteropathy. The disease usually has a poor prognosis, and the children rarely live more than 2 years.

Sigmoid diverticula are pseudodiverticula, protrusions of the mucosa between the muscularis, so that they pouch out ball shaped under the serosa or in the fatty connective tissue of the sigmoid region. They occur in pairs, often symmetrically along the taenias. They increase with age; as their evidence depends on the actual contraction of the bowel, the incidence varied strongly with the method of investigation. The pseudo-diverticula can cause diverticulitis. The anatomical characteristics of the large bowel are the fortified longitudinal muscular bands, the taenias, and the haustras. By a co

In an effort to elucidate whether bacteremia occurs during endoscopic examination of the lower gastrointestinal tract, two prospective studies were undertaken involving patients undergoing colonoscopy and proctosigmoidoscopy. The former group has been presented earlier, and the second study, which includes the proctosigmoidoscopy group, is the basis for this study. Fifty-seven patients undergoing proctosigmoidoscopy were studied. Excluded from the study were patients with fever, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, valvular heart disease, vascular prosthesis, chemotherapy, and immunosuppressi

The authors poisoned 500 female Wistar rats with a dialy dose of 15 mg/kg, The total dose ranged from 15 mg/kg to 420 mg/kg, according to the group. The animals were either killed when the dose defined for each group and been reached, or allowed to live. In a first series of 6 groups (120 animals), the following facts were noted: tumours deeveloped in all animals left alive, after 28 weeks (total dose of 1/2 D.M.H. = 420 MG/KG). Changes in the mucosa were seen from the 40th day on with, in the descending colon, a punctate abnormality involving two or three glandular tubes, in general at the su

Fifty-four endoscopically missed colonic polypoid lesions reveal the limitations of colonic endoscopy. Colonoscopy failed to identify 31 of the lesions, whereas 24 lesions were initially missed by proctosigmoidoscopy. One polypoid tumor of the rectosigmoid junction was missed by both. Most undetected lesions ranged from 0.5 to 1.5 cm. Endoscopic and radiologic diagnostic techniques are clearly complementary. Their combined diagnostic accuracy exceeds that of either technique alone. If results of the two methods conflict, one or both should be repeated. With a combined approach, completely miss

The most common histological type of gastric cancer (GC) is gastric adenocarcinoma arising from the gastric epithelium. Less common variants include mesenchymal, lymphoproliferative and neuroendocrine neoplasms. The Lauren scheme classifies GC into intestinal type, diffuse type and mixed type. The WHO classification includes papillary, tubular, mucinous, poorly cohesive and mixed GC. Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and intestinal metaplasia are recommended as common precancerous conditions. No definite precancerous condition of diffuse/poorly/undifferentiated type is recommended. Chronic supe

BACKGROUND: It has been recently documented that multiple bilateral pigmented lesions at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium may be … denomatous polyposis, Gardner syndrome, or intestinal cancer, and only one patient had a history of intestinal polyps. Among more than 2000 of their blood relatives, only 20 had intestinal polyposis or colonic cancer (1%). This is much lower than would be expected from a survey of patients with the typical fundus lesions seen with familial adenomatous polyposis.

We present a patient who developed an ileocolic intussusception within a few hours of undergoing an endoscopic polypectomy found on screening colonoscopy. She underwent a laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis. Final histopathological examination showed no evidence of malignancy. Intussusception after colonoscopy is a rare complication, and only 11 cases have been reported prior to this case. Laparoscopic resection with intracorporeal anastomosis is a safe and feasible option in patients who are not candidates or failed conservative management.

UNLABELLED: Juvenile polyposis syndrome is an autosomal dominant syndrome characterised by hamartomatous polyps in the gastrointestinal tract and has a high risk for colon carcinoma. This case explores the presentation of multiple polyps throughout the gastrointestinal tract, located in the stomach, proximal duodenum, colon, rectum and up to the anal canal. The locations and number of these polyps themselves were not typical and the histopathological studies suggested the condition to be an inflammatory fibroid polyp, which is a rare, benign and solitary neoplasm. Prompt and accurate diagnosti

The 2 most significant complications of colonoscopy with polypectomy are bleeding and perforation. Although the incidence rates are generally low (<1%), these can be avoided by recognizing pertinent risk factors, which can be patient, polyp, and technique/device related. Endoscopists should be equipped to manage bleeding and perforation. Currently available devices and techniques to achieve hemostasis and manage colon perforations are reviewed.

BACKGROUND: Osseous metaplasia of the gastrointestinal tract is exceedingly rare. Associated with colorectal cancer, juvenile polyps , and inflammatory polyps, the exact etiology is still unknown. We present a case report on a young male with recurrent rectal polyps and rectal bleeding. Histopathology revealed an inflammatory polyp with focal osseous metaplasia.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old male without significant past medical history but with a significant smoking history of 10 pack-years. He initially presented to the colorectal clinic approximately 8 months prior with complaints of re

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is a very rare benign condition in children that can occur throughout the gastrointestinal tract. It is characterized as a polypoid lesion originating in the submucosa, composed of connective tissue and eosinophilic infiltrate. It is most common in the stomach and in adults between the fifth and seventh decades of life. Its occurrence is unusual in the duodenum.
CASE SUMMARY: One case of duodenal IFP was described and the literature is reviewed with emphasis on the clinical and pathological features of IFP in children. A case of an IFP in the duode

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Because of the rarity of cap polyposis of the colon and rectum, the endoscopic features of this condition have not been specified to date. The aim of this study is to characterize the endoscopic features of cap polyposis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The diagnosis of cap polyposis was established by histologic findings in specimens obtained endoscopically or surgically from four patients. Colonoscopic findings in the four patients were retrospectively reviewed.
RESULTS: The endoscopic features were divided into semipedunculated type (three patients) and flat-topped protru

Gastrointestinal metastases of osteosarcoma are an extraordinarily rare event and, as far as we can determine, have been reported previously only 5 times; these cases represent an unusual pattern of progression. We describe a 21-year-old man with an osteosarcoma of the right tibia that was removed 4 years previously. Two years later, the patient showed lung metastases. At his most recent presentation, he complained of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and anorexia. Radiologic examination revealed an abdominal mass close to the jejunum and 3 nodules in the liver. One metastasis was an ulcerated

A man with a history of intermittent blood stained feces for 3 years was found with US to have a 3 cm polyp, presumably of the sigmoid colon. Double contrast barium enema and colonoscopy first missed the polyp, which was confirmed with surgery.

An unusual localization of localized colitis cystica profunda in a 31-year-old man is described. The patient presented as anal bleeding and a protruding mass at the descending colon; the mass was polypoid and was made up of papillary epithelial hyperplasia with downward herniation of glands into the submucosa. Only one similar case involving a descending colon has been reported in the world literature.
