We located 113 former inpatients with panic disorder 35 years after index admission. According to age- and sex-specific Iowa population figures, patients with panic disorder had significant excess mortality due to death by unnatural causes. Other studies suggest that secondary depression and alcoholism may have had a role in these deaths. Men with panic disorder also exhibited excess mortality due to circulatory system disease. A variable kinked-tail mutant was found in 1974 in a moderately inbred stock of mice at Iowa State University, Ames. It was named meander tail and was shown to be completely recessive. At the time of necropsy, numerous nematodes were observed in the crop and proventriculus with evidence of proventriculitis. Histoplasmosis is an endemic fungus in several regions of the United States. The diagnosis and treatment of this infection can be challenging in pediatric oncology patients. We present 5 patients diagnosed with histoplasmosis while receiving treatment at a midsize pediatric oncology center in Iowa. We studied, clinically and radiologically, the growth and remodelling of 21 hips after valgus femoral osteotomy with both rotational and sagittal correction for hinge abduction in 21 patients (mean age, 9.7 years) with Perthes' disease. A survey of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment during 1976 was conducted on the population of Iowa. The annual incidences (per 100,000 populations) of four types of detachment were determined: nontraumatic phakic (6.1), traumatic phakic (1.0), nontraumatic aphakic (4.9), and traumatic aphakic (0.4).
