The effects of divalent cations and of some inhibitors on the activities of alkaline phosphatase and ATPase were examined in rat jejunal brush-border membranes (BBM) isolated by tha Ca(2+)-(BBMCa) or the Mg(2+)-precipitation method (BBMMg). Similar results were found in BBMCa and BBMMg though generally higher in BBMCa. BACKGROUND: Adjustable gastric banding (AGB) is on the decline due to its relatively modest amount of expected weight loss, coupled with high rates of revision and complications such as band erosion. Management of eroded gastric bands can be challenging especially when complete intra-gastric erosion is followed by distal migration causing small bowel obstruction.
METHODS: We present an endoscopic option of using a pediatric colonoscope to remove an eroded AGB causing jejunal obstruction.
RESULT: Endoscopic removal of an eroded ABG causing bowel obstruction was successful.

Intussusception is a rare cause of postoperative intestinal obstruction in adults. We experienced two cases of bowel obstruction due to the jejuno-jejunal intussusception after harvest of a free jejunum graft for reconstruction after cervical esophagectomy. Bowel obstruction occurred early in the postoperative course, and reoperations were needed in both cases. In both case, the anastomotic site was resected and re-anastomosed in a side-to-side fashion. Chicken yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) is a natural immunologically active antibody extracted from egg yolk and can be used as a natural dietary supplement for the treatment of inflammation and damage to the intestines. In our study, IgY was embedded in a double emulsion (W/O/W; DE) to explore the therapeutic effect of the embedded IgY on Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced jejunal injury in mice.
