Effectiveness of delivering evidence-based eating disorder treatment via telemedicine for children, adolescents, and youth.

Barriers limit access to eating disorder treatment. Evidence-based treatment delivered using telemedicine could expand access. This study determined the effectiveness of enhanced Family-Based Treatment (FBT+) delivered using telemedicine for children and adolescents with eating disorders. Participants had a confirmed eating disorder diagnosis, lived in states where treatment was available, and lived with a family member willing to participate. Virtual FBT+ was administered by a five-person team including a therapist, dietitian, medical provider, peer mentor, and family mentor for up to 12 mont

[Peer support programs in mental health in France: Status report and challenges].

OBJECTIVES: Recovery is a process through which people experiencing mental illness learn to live with their disorder and reach social insertion and citizenship. This positive approach focuses on a person's competencies and strengths rather than on the symptoms. Within this philosophy, peer support has been unevenly developing in mental health services worldwide with roots in the South-American social programs for homeless people and in the American recovery circles in the field of addiction. Therapeutic efficiency of peer support has been proven by several studies including a control group, as

"I Accept Them, They Accept Me, We Enjoy Our Time Together": Autistic Adults' Preferences and Perceptions of Relationships With Other Autistic People.

Autistic adults may have distinct relationship preferences and perceptions compared to non-autistic individuals. The Double Empathy Problem suggests that autistic people often experience greater mutual understanding and connection when interacting with other autistic individuals. While some research has examined these relationships, few studies have focused on a range of relationship types. This study aimed to address this gap by qualitatively exploring how autistic adults prefer and perceive their relationships with other autistic people across friendships, romantic relationships, mentoring/s…

Impact of personalized coaching on the use of digital health interventions for movement therapy in rheumatology: a randomized controlled trial.

Spondyloarthropathies (SpA) are characterized by low back pain and limited mobility. Therefore, physical activity (PA) is an essential part of the treatment, yielding positive effects on clinical symptoms. Digital health applications (DHAs) present new opportunities to promote clinical outcomes, however, their long-term effectiveness is often limited by low adherence and high dropout rates. This study investigates whether integrating personalized or AI-driven coaching enhances the therapeutic benefits of DHA in patients with SpA. SpAs patients were randomized into one of 3 groups. They were ins

Enhancing the Graduate Medical Education Clinical Learning Environment Through Community of Practice Forums.

An optimal clinical learning environment (CLE) is associated with improved learning and patient care outcomes. Significant concerns exist about the state of the CLE in graduate medical education (GME). Research suggests that GME programming falls short in interpersonal aspects of training that promote trainee engagement and psychological safety. Furthermore, published educational interventions in the CLE lack adequate theoretical backing to inform a rational approach to interventions in the CLE that could address these important problems. The authors apply the 2002 work of Etienne Wenger on com

Impact of a pediatric primary care health-coaching program on change in health-related quality of life in children with mental health problems: results of the PrimA-QuO cohort study.

Mental health problems (MHP) have a considerable negative impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in children and their families. A low threshold Health Coaching (HC) program has been introduced to bring MH services to primary care and strengthen the role of pediatricians. It comprised training concepts as a hands-on approach for pediatricians, standardization of diagnosis and treatment, and extended consultations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential effects of the HC on HRQoL in children with MHP and their parents. We used data from the PrimA-QuO cohort study conducted

Developing artificial intelligence models for medical student suturing and knot-tying video-based assessment and coaching.

BACKGROUND: Early introduction and distributed learning have been shown to improve student comfort with basic requisite suturing skills. The need for more frequent and directed feedback, however, remains an enduring concern for both remote and in-person training. A previous in-person curriculum for our second-year medical students transitioning to clerkships was adapted to an at-home video-based assessment model due to the social distancing implications of COVID-19. We aimed to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model to perform video-based assessment. METHODS: Second-year medical studen

"We're in good hands there." - Acceptance, barriers and facilitators of a primary care-based health coaching programme for children and adolescents with mental health problems: a qualitative study (PrimA-QuO).

BACKGROUND: 11.5 % of girls and 17.8 % of boys are affected by a mental health problem (MHP). The most prevalent problem areas are behavioural problems (girls/boys in %: 11.9/17.9), emotional problems (9.7/8.6) and hyperactivity problems (4.8/10.8). Primary care paediatricians are the first in line to be contacted. Nevertheless, even for less severely affected patients, referral rates to specialised care are constantly high. Therefore, a major statutory health insurance fund introduced a Health Coaching (HC) programme, including a training concept for paediatricians, standardised guidelines fo

Coaching parents to assess and treat self-injurious behaviour via telehealth.

The application of telehealth technology to conduct functional analysis (FA) and functional communication training (FCT) is emerging for children with developmental disabilities and behaviour support needs. The current study was designed to extend FA + FCT for self-injurious behaviour by using telehealth in home with parents as interventionists receiving real-time remote coaching. Two families with school-aged boys with developmental disabilities associated with intellectual disability participated, one with cerebral palsy and the other with autism spectrum disorder. Results indicated that par

Service, training, mentorship: first report of an innovative education-support program to revitalize primary care social service in Chiapas, Mexico.

BACKGROUND: The Mexican mandatory year of social service following medical school, or pasantía, is designed to provide a safety net for the underserved. However, social service physicians (pasantes) are typically unpracticed, unsupervised, and unsupported. Significant demotivation, absenteeism, and underperformance typically plague the social service year. OBJECTIVE: Compañeros en Salud (CES) aimed to create an education-support package to turn the pasantía into a transformative learning experience. DESIGN: CES recruited pasantes to complete their pasantía in CES-supported Ministry of Health

Exposing operations of power in supervisory relationships.

Through a poststructural lens, we examine how power may show itself in relationships between supervisees and supervisors, producing both helpful and harmful effects. Drawing from our own experiences, as well as conversations with other members of our supervisory group, we demonstrate how privileged discourses around professional status, gender, and race may bring about difficulties including a sense of doubt, worry, inadequacy, and a fear of speaking up. We also illustrate how these difficulties can be addressed in a manner that may lessen their influence, while increasing supervisees' sense o
