Organic-inorganic metal halides (OIMHs) provide a versatile platform for regulating excited-state processes through structural design. Herein, four In-based OIMHs, (C7H12N2)InCl5(H2O)·H2O (1), (C7H10N2)InCl3(C3H7NO) (2) and (C7H10N2)2In2Cl6 (3), and [(C7H10N2)InBr4][(C7H10N2)2InBr2] (4), were synthesized via solvent-controlled crystallization using 2-[(methylamino)methyl]pyridine as the organic component. Changing the crystallization solvent modulates ligand protonation, In-N/O coordination, and In-halide connectivity, giving rise to distinct coordination motifs and intermolecular confinement.

To test the hypothesis that fledging wading birds would be more at risk from mercury toxicosis than younger nestlings, captive great egret nestlings were maintained as controls or were dosed from 1- to 14-wk-old with 0.5 or 5 mg methylmercury chloride/kg wet weight in fish. The DNA damaging activity of 7 haloalkanes was studied in a short-term in vitro system which utilized human lymphocytes. The parameters studied were the inhibition of scheduled (duplicative) and unscheduled (reparative) DNA syntheses seen as tritiated thymidine uptake. The results obtained suggested that chloromethyl methyl ether (CMME), 1,2-dibromoethane (DBE), trichloroethylene (TCE) and 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) gave positive results such as DNA damaging agents, while carbon tetrachloride (CTC), chloroform (TCM) and dichloromethane (DCM) gave low or negative results.
