Factors associated with knowledges and attitudes about measles and rubella immunization in a non-health care occupational setting in Japan.

INTRODUCTION: Elimination of measles and rubella has been achieved in several countries and some regions. After verified measles elimination, some countries have reported outbreaks among adults in occupational settings such as health care institution and school setting. Studies have reported that knowledge and attitude for measles and/or rubella are significantly associated with immunization uptake in adults, but few studies have been conducted in settings other than health care facilities and schools. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study among 134 office employees during a routine h

Prevalence of Low Back Pain in Health Care Workers and Comparison with Other Occupational Categories in Iran: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: There are few research studies evaluating the significance of low back pain (LBP) in Iran, even though the majority of locally published surveys are written in the Persian language. In the present review study, we aimed at appraising published articles related to the burden of LBP and its divergence among different jobs. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted in all accessible national and international electronic databases from 1948 to mid-2012. The international electronic databases were MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Sciences, Google Scholar, Scopus, CINAHL, and the Iranian eq

Characterization of PIR detector for monitoring occupancy patterns and functional health status of elderly people living alone at home.

Changes in the behavioral activity of elderly people living alone at home may be an indicator for the assessment of their functional health status. In this paper, we evaluate the characteristics of a pyro-electric infrared detector (PIRD) to identify any section of the room where detector will fail to respond and assess the number of detectors required to identify the movements of the occupant reliably. The experimental results suggest that the PIRD output decreases very sharply from 1 V at 3 m to 0.2 V at 5 m and is below 0.5 V for hand movements at detection angle of <20 degrees and >50 degr

Evaluation of a western blot test as a potential screening tool for occupational exposure to Mycobacterium tuberculosis in health care workers.

Health care workers (HCWs) have a higher than average risk for contracting Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection and tuberculosis (TB). No markers of MTB-exposure are available, and TB risk assessment is performed by tuberculin screening, identifying individuals with acquired MTB infection. This study evaluated a western blot (WB) anti-M. bovis A60 complex antibody as a MTB-exposure marker. WB reactivity was evaluated on 127 exposed and 28 non-exposed HCWs from four divisions of the Policlinico Hospital of Modena, and 140 non-exposed bacille Calmette-Guérin-vaccinated controls. Excess of

Predation, acceleration, and loss of control: a multilevel theoretical framework for algorithmic time politics and the occupational health of platform workers.

In platform labor, algorithms reshape workers' perception and control of time through mechanisms such as dynamic pricing, compulsory task as … s of platform workers. The core argument of the framework is that algorithmic time politics damages occupational health through three interconnected mechanisms-temporal predation, temporal acceleration and discipline, and temporal loss of control-which form a progressive chain from "the quantity of time" through "the quality of time" to "the sovereignty over time." D …

Understanding health services and puberty for autistic adolescents and those with disability: A scoping review to inform occupational therapy practice.

INTRODUCTION: Puberty is a transitional period presenting challenges for autistic adolescents, adolescents with disabilities and their families. There are opportunities for occupational therapy to provide support to this cohort as adolescents navigate the complexity of puberty transition. However, there is a lack of published evidence and knowledge translation to guide practice. It is important to scope the literature to gain understanding of the pubertal experiences of autistic adolescents, adolescents with a disability, their families and services accessed for support. The aim of this scopin

Health hazards of occupational exposure to benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) and the role of Vanin-1: a populational-based study.

PURPOSE: Despite most enterprises adhering to regulatory limits for benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) exposure, growing evidence suggests that chronic, low-level exposure to these chemicals is associated with compromised antioxidant defenses. Vascular non-inflammatory molecule 1 (Vanin-1) plays a pivotal role in modulating oxidative stress. This study investigates the effect on hematological parameters and oxidative stress markers among occupationally exposed workers, focusing on Vanin-1 as a potential early oxidative damage biomarker. METHODS: A total of 300 participants (exposure group = 100

Evaluation of the relationship between occupational-specific task performance and measures of physical fitness, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health in firefighters.

INTRODUCTION: Firefighters are required to perform physically strenuous tasks such as hose drags, victim rescues, forcible entries and stair climbs to complete their public safety mission. Occupational-specific tasks are often used to evaluate the ability of firefighters to adequately/safely perform their duties. Depending on the regions, occupational-specific tasks include six to eight individual tasks, which emphasize distinct aspects of their physical fitness, while also requiring different levels of cardiovascular (CVH) and musculoskeletal health (MSH). Therefore, the aim of this study was

The need for a multi-level approach to occupational safety and health among Asian and Asian American beauty service workers.

Asian and Asian Americans (A/AA) are a group overlooked in general health outcomes but especially occupational safety and health outcomes. In the United States, the beauty service microbusiness industry (e.g., nail salons) predominantly employs immigrant Asian women who regularly encounter a plethora of occupational hazards (e.g., harmful chemical exposures -toluene, formaldehyde, bloodborne pathogens, fungi. However, due to the precariousness of beauty service jobs, cultural and linguistic barriers, and social determinants of health, A/AA beauty service workers face complex occupational safet

Nosocomial transmission of MPOX virus to health care workers -an emerging occupational hazard: A case report and review of the literature.

We present an unusual case of monkeypox (MPOX) virus transmission to a dermatology resident during examination of affected patients. Viral DNA sequencing led to the identification of the most likely contact. This case, along with a review of all published cases so far, emphasizes the possible hazard of MPOX transmission to health care personnel, even when wearing personal protective equipment. It also emphasizes the need for maintaining high index of suspicion when examining patients with new dermatological lesions and strict compliance with the revised Centers for Disease Control and Preventi
