INTRODUCTION: Malocclusion plays an important role in the development of periodontitis. Thus, by treating malocclusion, a good gingival health can be achieved. This study was conducted to establish the correlation between orthodontic tooth movement and periodontitis.

The purpose of this article is to describe the use of a new trans-alveolar screw (TAS) as a temporary orthodontic anchorage device for the posterior maxilla, to intrude overerupted maxillary molars. To date, five consecutive patients have been treated with these newly designed screws. Intrusions achieved ranged from 2.1 and 6mm (mean 4.7 mm). INTRODUCTION: Rapid palatal expansion (RPE) in childhood is indicated in children and teenagers with transverse maxillary deficiencies, often with skeletal antero-posterior and vertical anomalies, and functional abnormalities. The procedure consists of separating the right and left maxillae over two or three weeks.
