Parenting, psychological insecurity, and mental health: Understanding the effects of adverse childhood experiences in adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Adolescence is a critical developmental period during which individuals undergo significant cognitive, social, and emotional changes. Although extensive research shows that parenting styles can either promote or hinder adolescent mental health, relatively few studies have examined how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and psychological insecurity jointly mediate these effects in non-Western contexts. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate how authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive parenting styles influence adolescent psychological well-being (PWB), with a specific fo

Psychological determinants and predictors of outcomes in spinal cord stimulation: a systematic review.

UNLABELLED: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has been proven to be an effective therapy for chronic persistent pain conditions. In addition to somatic and technical variables, the effectiveness of this therapy is also influenced by psychological factors. Despite the growing number of studies, there is currently no consensus on which factors predict outcomes of SCS treatment. The existence of this knowledge gap underscores the need for a systematic review to consolidate the current knowledge about the role of psychological factors in the efficacy of SCS. A comprehensive literature search was condu

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of GI and MM on selected bio-physiological and psychological parameters among patients with cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was adopted amon

Psychological hardiness and coping behaviour implementation in Japanese menopausal women: a cross-sectional survey of stress, coping strategies, and their translation into behaviour.

OBJECTIVE: Menopausal symptoms are complex psychosomatic experiences influenced by psychological resources and behavioural coping processes, in addition to hormonal changes. Although coping strategies have been widely examined, the factors associated with the implementation of coping behaviours remain unclear. This study examined how psychological hardiness relates to coping strategies, coping behaviour implementation, and menopausal symptoms. METHODS: This cross-sectional survey of 198 women aged 45-55 years assessed menopausal symptoms, daily stress, hardiness, coping strategies, and coping

Meaning-making while staying connected matters in psychological adaptation during pandemic: a longitudinal moderated mediation study.

Adversity may bring about both negative and positive changes in psychological adaptation. Although there is mounting evidence regarding the psychological distress during the pandemic, the other side of posttraumatic change, posttraumatic growth (PTG) and its predictors are relatively underexamined. Moreover, there is a paucity of longitudinal investigations that examined intra- and interpersonal predictors responsible for both sides of psychological adaptation. Therefore, this study comprehensively examined the longitudinal relationship among cognitive processing, social support, and adaptatio

Resilience is spreading: Mental health within the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 global pandemic is in many ways unchartered mental health territory, but history would suggest that long-term resilience will be the most common outcome, even for those most directly impacted by the outbreak. We address 4 common myths about resilience and discuss ways to systematically build individual and community resiliency. Actively cultivating social support, adaptive meaning, and direct prosocial behaviors to reach the most vulnerable can have powerful resilience promoting effects. Augmented reality-based fine arts education experiences and adolescents' perceived reduction in depressive symptoms: a self-report study of associations with psychological resilience, rumination, and emotional regulation.

As depressive symptoms among adolescents continue to rise, increasing attention has been directed toward educational contexts that may support psychological well-being. Augmented reality, characterized by immersive, interactive, and multisensory affordances, has been increasingly incorporated into fine arts education. However, it remains insufficiently understood how adolescents' perceived AR-based fine arts education experiences are associated with psychological resilience, emotional regulation, perceived reduction in rumination, and perceived reduction in depressive symptoms. Using post-cour

Exploring realism in high-fidelity ambulance simulation: ambulance clinicians' perspectives on correspondence with everyday practice.

BACKGROUND: High-fidelity simulation (HFS) provides a controlled environment for training, allowing ambulance clinicians'(ACs) to practice and refine their skills without risking patient safety. Additionally, it enables the replication of complex scenarios, ensuring comprehensive preparedness for real-life emergencies. However, there remains a need to understand how frontline professionals in ambulance services experience these simulation-based activities. This is especially true when using high-fidelity modalities that aim to replicate real-world scenarios for research purposes. AIM: To expl

Development and Validation of the Outcomes of WeLlbeing and Distress Scale for Adults With an Intellectual Disability (OWLS-ID), Formally Known as the PTOS-ID.

BACKGROUND: The Psychological Therapies Outcome Scale-Intellectual Disabilities-II (PTOS-ID-II) is a 29-item self-report measure developed to assess psychological distress and positive well-being in people with an intellectual disability. While initial validation demonstrated promising psychometric properties, further replication in a larger sample was needed, and incorporating insights gained from routine clinical use over the years since its initial implementation. METHOD: A quantitative cross-sectional design was utilised to test the psychometric properties of the PTOS-ID-II using data col

Measures of Daily Activities Associated With Mental Health (Things You Do Questionnaire): Development of a Preliminary Psychometric Study and Replication Study.

BACKGROUND: A large body of research has identified modifiable cognitions and behaviors (actions) associated with psychological health. However, little is known regarding the actions that are most strongly associated with psychological health or the frequency with which they should be performed. OBJECTIVE: This paper described 2 studies that used survey methodology to create the Things You Do Questionnaire (TYDQ), which aims to identify and rank actions (items) and domains of actions (factors) most strongly associated with psychological health. METHODS: We used digital marketing strategies t

Real-world outcomes during sulfurous balneotherapy in osteoarthritis: retrospective analysis.

Real-world evidence on the effectiveness of balneotherapy in osteoarthritis remains limited. This study evaluated patient-reported outcomes collected during routine sulfurous balneotherapy practice. A retrospective analysis was conducted using routinely collected data from 90 consecutive patients with knee (n = 45), hip (n = 30), or hand (n = 15) osteoarthritis who underwent a standard 12-day balneotherapy protocol at the Saturnia Thermal Center (October 2023). Outcomes included pain intensity assessed with the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), functional disability measured using the Health Assessme

Iterative Refinement of a Sensory-Based Mindfulness Coaching Approach: An Exploratory Qualitative Action Research Study with Korean University Students.

This exploratory qualitative action research study examined the implementation and iterative refinement of mindfulness-flow-awareness-coaching (MFAC), a sensory-based mindfulness coaching approach, and explored participants' reported experiences. Six Korean university students completed pre-MFAC and post-MFAC interviews and the six-session MFAC framework. One participant's initial Session 4 was discontinued after an unexpected recollection resulted in emotional overwhelm, and an adjusted Session 4 was conducted one week later, resulting in 37 session deliveries. The study drew on interview and
