Local abaloparatide administration promotes in situ alveolar bone augmentation via FAK-mediated periosteal osteogenesis.

Insufficient alveolar bone thickness increases the risk of periodontal dehiscence and fenestration, especially in orthodontic tooth movement. Abaloparatide (ABL), a synthetic analog of human PTHrP (1-34) and a clinical medication for treating osteoporosis, has recently demonstrated its potential in enhancing craniofacial bone formation. Herein, we show that intraoral submucosal injection of ABL, when combined with mechanical force, promotes in situ alveolar bone thickening. The newly formed bone is primarily located outside the original compact bone, implying its origin from the periosteum. RN

AI-Assisted Detection of Interproximal, Occlusal, and Secondary Caries on Bite-Wing Radiographs: A Single-Shot Deep Learning Approach.

Tooth decay is a common oral disease worldwide, but errors in diagnosis can often be made in dental clinics, which can lead to a delay in treatment. This study aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) for the automated detection and localization of secondary, occlusal, and interproximal (D1, D2, D3) caries types on bite-wing radiographs. The eight hundred and sixty bite-wing radiographs were collected from the School of Dentistry database. Pre-processing and data augmentation operations were performed. Interproximal (D1, D2, D3), secondary, and occlusal caries on bite-wing radiographs were ann

Oculo-dento-digital dysplasia: a systematic analysis of published dental literature.

INTRODUCTION: Oculo-dento-digital dysplasia (ODDD, OMIM# 164200) is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutation in Gap junction alpha gene that encodes connexin 43 (Cx43) protein. In this paper, the case of a 16-year-old boy is reported who presented with the complaint of toothache. Examination revealed unusual facial features, i.e., long narrow nose, hypertelorism, prominent epicanthal folds along with syndactyly and camptodactyly. We have also compiled available dental literature on ODDD that will help clinicians in early diagnosis and management of this condition. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A l

Suppression of parotid acinar cell dysfunction by the free radical scavenger 3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one.

Salivary gland atrophy and consequent hyposalivation are serious problems in clinical dentistry, as saliva regulates the environment of the oral cavity. To clarify the mechanisms underlying salivary gland dysfunction, a system for primary culture of parotid acinar cells has been established. It has been reported previously that the process of cell isolation from parotid glands triggers stress signaling mediated by Src and p38 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase (p38), leading to dedifferentiation of acinar cells, and that an nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase inhibi
