Efficacy of Single Stretching Session of Iliopsoas Using Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Versus Muscle Energy Technique on Low Back Pain in Patients With Lumbar Hyper-Lordosis.

Background and objectives One of the most frequent conditions for which people seek physiotherapy treatment is low back pain (LBP). When the aetiology of low back pain is whittled down to mechanical factors, pelvic tilting becomes apparent. The iliopsoas muscle is the key to relieving LBP in such circumstances, and since it is tightened, we concentrated on stretching it adequately in this study. Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and muscle energy technique (MET) are two stretching techniques that we have compared for this purpose. There are many other stretching techniques availa

Management of Low Back Pain With Concurrent Hamstring Tightness: A Case Report Highlighting the Efficacy of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, Mulligan's Two-Leg Rotation Technique, and Exercise Regimen.

Low back pain (LBP) is a prevalent musculoskeletal issue characterized by discomfort in the lumbosacral region. LBP localized between the 12th thoracic vertebra and inferior gluteal folds is common and often lacks a clear etiology. Various factors contribute to LBP, including increased lumbar lordosis, diminished abdominal muscle strength, reduced back extensor muscle endurance, and flexibility limitations in the back extensors, iliopsoas, and hamstrings. Treatment modalities for LBP encompass surgical intervention, pharmacotherapy, lumbar injections, psychotherapy, chiropractic care, and phys

Early pre- and postsynaptic decrease in glutamatergic and cholinergic signaling after spinalization is not modified when stimulating proprioceptive input to the ankle extensor α-motoneurons: Anatomical and neurochemical study.

Alpha-motoneurons (MNs) innervating ankle extensor muscles show reduced peripheral inputs from Ia proprioceptive afferents and cholinergic afferents after chronic spinalization (SCT). That phenomenon is not observed on ankle flexor MNs, indicating a smaller vulnerability of the latter MNs circuit to SCT. Locomotor training of spinal rats which partially restored those inputs to extensor MNs tended to hyper innervate flexor MNs, disclosing a need for selective approaches. In rats with intact spinal cord 7-days of low-threshold proprioceptive stimulation of the tibial nerve enriched glutamatergi

A randomized controlled trial on the long-term effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training, on pain-related outcomes and back muscle activity, in patients with chronic low back pain.

BACKGROUND: The role of exercise therapy in improving pain-related clinical outcomes and trunk muscle activity in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) has been widely reported. There is little information on the effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) training in patients with CLBP. The purpose of the present study was therefore to investigate the persistence of the effects of PNF training on pain intensity, functional disability, patient satisfaction, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and lower back muscle activity in patients with CLBP. METHODS: Forty-two partic

The 2BFit study: is an unsupervised proprioceptive balance board training programme, given in addition to usual care, effective in preventing ankle sprain recurrences? Design of a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: There is strong evidence that athletes have a twofold risk for re-injury after a previous ankle sprain, especially during the first year post-injury. These ankle sprain recurrences could result in disability and lead to chronic pain or instability in 20 to 50% of these cases. When looking at the high rate of ankle sprain recurrences and the associated chronic results, ankle sprain recurrence prevention is important. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of a proprioceptive balance board training programme on ankle sprain recurrences, that was applied to individual athletes after rehab

Bilateral Gum Chewing as Proprioceptive Sensorimotor Re-Education for Patients with Masticatory Muscle Weakness Presenting with Orofacial Pain and Perceived Occlusal Change: A Technical Note with a Retrospective Case Series.

Within the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders, masticatory myalgia is framed around muscle hyperactivity, yet a recognizable subgroup shows the opposite profile-low muscle tone, fatigue, masticatory pain, and a persistent sense that the bite no longer fits, without structural dental change-and responds poorly to conventional conservative care. We introduce G-SCORE (Gum-chewing-mediated Sensorimotor Calibration of Occlusion through Rhythmic Exercise), a proprioceptive recalibration strategy delivered as a bilateral gum-chewing (BGC) protocol: two equal halves of one sugar-free

The effect of proprioceptive knee bracing on knee stability during three different sport related movement tasks in healthy subjects and the implications to the management of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries.

INTRODUCTION: Proprioceptive knee braces have been shown to improve knee mechanics, however much of the work to date has focused on tasks such as slow step down tasks rather than more dynamic sporting tasks. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore if such improvements in stability may be seen during faster sports specific tasks as well as slower tasks. METHOD: Twelve subjects performed a slow step down, single leg drop jump and pivot turn jump with and without a silicone web brace. 3D kinematics of the knee were collected using a ten camera Qualisys motion analysis system. Reflexive contraction of the levator palpebrae superioris muscle to involuntarily sustain the effective eyelid retraction through the transverse trigeminal proprioceptive nerve on the proximal Mueller's muscle: verification with evoked electromyography.

We have proposed a hypothetical mechanism to involuntarily sustain the effective eyelid retraction, which consists of not only voluntary but also reflexive contractions of the levator palpebrae superior muscle (LPSM). Voluntary contraction of fast-twitch fibres of the LPSM stretches the mechanoreceptors in Mueller's muscle to evoke trigeminal proprioception, which induces continuous reflexive contraction of slow-twitch fibres of the LPSM through the trigeminal proprioceptive nerve fibres innervating the mechanoreceptors in Mueller's muscle via the oculomotor neurons, as a tonic trigemino-oculo…

Reflex muscle contraction in anterior shoulder instability.

Reduced proprioception may contribute to recurrent anterior shoulder instability. Twelve patients with unilateral shoulder instability were investigated for evidence of deficient proprioception with an activated pneumatic cylinder and surface electromyography electrodes; the contralateral normal shoulder was used as a control. The latency between onset of movement and the detection of muscle contraction was used as an index of proprioception. No significant difference in muscle contraction latency was detected between the stable and unstable shoulders, suggesting that there was no significant …
