Whenever measuring, it is good practice to report not only an outcome point value, but also a measure of dispersion. This is rarely done for visual acuity. We here demonstrate that a confidence interval (CI) can be obtained for visual acuity based on all staircase responses. Smell loss originates from peripheral disorders, like intranasal obstruction and olfactory cell injury, as well as central pathway diseases. A series of 15 patients with Peters' anomaly observed from 1987-1991 and a patient showing Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome were studied retrospectively. Combined ocular anomalies were: microphthalmos (9x), myopia (4x), aniridia (2x), cataract (2x).
