The binding sites for Ulex europaeus agglutinin I (UEA-I), Bandeirea simplicifolia agglutinin I (BSA-I), and peanut agglutinin (PNA) were comparatively examined in the surgical materials from 41 cases of cystic and solid ameloblastomas and 42 cases of non-neoplastic odontogenic cysts including dentigerous cyst, odontogenic keratocyst, and radicular cyst. In non-neoplastic cysts, most of epithelial lining layers gave positive binding with UEA-I and BSA-I. However, no positive reactions were obtained for these two lectins in the epithelial components of ameloblastoma, except for limited UEA-I bi…

BACKGROUND: Odontogenic cysts and tumours of the jaws represent one of the most prevalent groups of oral-maxillofacial lesions. We aimed to … than one lesion providing a total of 433 lesions. There were 396 (91.5%) OC, mostly represented by radicular cysts (n=257;59.4%), dentigerous cysts (n=79;18.2%), or odontogenic keratocysts (n=50;11.5%). There were 37 (8.5%) OT, mostly represented by ameloblastomas (n=16;3.7%), and odontomas (n=9;2.1%). The most common initial clinical manifestation was swelling …

BACKGROUND: Few studies regarding oral lesions of children and adolescents were reported in the medical literature. The aim of this study wa … lammatory/ reactive, centeral giant cell granoloma (CGCG) in 15 (26.8%) of 56 tumor/ tumor like and radicular cyst in 14 (37.9%) of 37 cystic lesions.
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that mucocele, CGCG and radicular cyst were frequent lesions in inflammatory / reactive, tumor / tumor like and cystic categories, respectively in our region.

The clinical imaging typically presents as a multicystic lesion in the jawbone, which is mostly diagnosed as ameloblastoma, myxoma, or odontogenic keratocyst. Preoperative biopsy is often challenging due to the intraosseous location of these lesions. Consequently, clinicians frequently rely on these characteristic multicystic imaging features to diagnose either ameloblastoma or odontogenic keratocyst, subsequently planning treatments ranging from marginal resection to mandibular segmental osteotomies with concurrent autogenous bone grafting. However, we encountered two cases of multicystic les

The authors present the case of a 17-year-old White male patient complaining of enlargement in the gingival region and the fundus of the left maxillary anterior vestibular sulcus. The clinicopathological diagnosis was plexiform unicystic ameloblastoma. With this report, the authors illustrate the importance and complexity of a differential diagnosis of lesions with a cystic aspect in the anterior region of the maxilla, among them inflammatory radicular cysts, odontogenic keratocysts, adenomatoid odontogenic and unicystic ameloblastoma.

A cyst attached to the apex of a mandibular canine was partly lined with respiratory epithelium. This is an interesting observation for two reasons: (1) The few well-documented instances of this type of epithelium in apical periodontal cysts have been in the maxilla, where a plausible source for the respiratory epithelium for most of them was a breach in the floor of the maxillary sinus. (2) The mandibular location of the cyst reported here indicates that the respiratory epithelium within it was derived through proliferation and metaplasia of the rests of Malassez.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of transnasal endoscopic surgery for the treatment of maxillary cysts.
METHOD: Transnasal endoscopic surgery was performed in 13 patients with maxillary cysts that extended to the maxillary sinus or the nasal bottom. Five patients had a radicular cyst, three patients had a dentigerous cyst, three patients had a nasolabial cyst and two patients had a median cyst. After the resection of anterior edge of the inferior turbinate or the nasal bottom, the lateral wall of the inferior nasal meatus was opened. Then, the cyst wall of the maxillary…

Using routine X-ray pictures the different types of jaw cysts are presented and the characteristic findings of the individual cyst types are emphasised. An exact diagnosis can often be made using only the panorama tomograph, particularly if the topographic position of the cyst and any relationship to the dental system are taken into account. The differential diagnosis becomes difficult in cases where the peripheral compact lamella is missing or the bony border is not sharp, and in cases of honeycombed, multilocular, polycystic form. In such cases tumours, metastases and systemic diseases must

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have shown a strong relationship between the expression of osteopontin and oral carcinogenesis. Osteopontin (OPN) … with Ki-67 index may help examine clinical behavior and recurrence of oral squamous cell cancer and radicular cyst patients.
METHODS: A total of 44 oral cavity cancer cases and 21 cysts samples were analyzed by immunohistochemical staining. Data used for analysis were derived from medical records. The following information was obtained from all patients' medica …

The main objective was to describe the different types and characteristics of lumbar spine extradural cysts and their optimal treatment options with a focus on endoscopic technique. We searched Pubmed, EMBASE, Medline, and Google Scholar for articles published between 1967 and 2020 using the keywords "Spinal Cyst," "Extradural Cyst," and "Lumbar Cyst." The various anatomical and histological types of the extradural cysts with their presentations, etiologies, imaging, and optimal treatment with a focus on endoscopic techniques were reviewed from the articles. Lumbar spinal cysts are relatively

Lumbar facet joint synovial cysts are benign degenerative abnormalities of the lumbar spine and can cause lower extremity ra-diculopathy, spinal stenosis, and low back pain. Herein, we report a case with a synovial cyst treated by percutaneous fluoros-copic aspiration via the facet joint. A 46-year-old woman presented to the neurosurgery clinic complaining of a 2-month history of low back pain with left-sided radicular symptoms. Her physical examination was consistent with a left L5 radiculopathy, and MRI confirmed a left L5-S1 facet joint synovial cyst compressing the nerve root. Percutaneous

BACKGROUND: The number of studies investigating the immunohistochemical characteristics of glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) is limited, due to its rarity. TGF-beta has been suggested to induce podoplanin expression in some lesions. We aimed to evaluate and compare podoplanin and TGF-beta expression in GOC and other odontogenic cystic lesions.
METHODS: A total of 43 samples including five GOCs, 10 dentigerous cysts (DCs), eight unicystic ameloblastoma (UAs), and 20 radicular cysts (RCs) were selected and subjected to immunohistochemical staining using monoclonal antibodies against podoplanin…
