Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital anomalies of the primitive foregut that are usually found above the diaphragm, and a retroperitoneal location is extremely unusual. Due to the low prevalence of these pathologies, their imaging features have seldom been described. We report a rare case of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst showing characteristic imaging features of milk of calcium on plain abdominal radiography and computed tomography.

Bronchogenic cysts are generally found in the mediastinum, particularly posterior to the carina, but they rarely occur in such unusual sites as the skin, subcutaneous tissue, pericardium, and even the retroperitoneum. A 30-year-old Korean man underwent surgery to remove a cystic adrenal mass incidentally discovered during routine physical checkup. At surgery, it proved to be a multilocular cyst located in the retroperitoneum adjacent to the left adrenal gland. We report the case of a 57-yr-old woman presenting with moderate weight loss, abdominal distension, and lymphedema of the legs and vulva. Computed tomography of the abdomen revealed massive thickening of the rectal wall, mesentery, and retroperitoneum. Primary amyloidosis was diagnosed by immunohistochemistry from the rectum and duodenum. To our knowledge, lymphedema due to primary amyloidosis has not yet been reported. The diagnosis should be presumed in the case of retroperitoneal thickening and lymphedema and can be established by immunohistochemistry.

A 45-year-old alcoholic male patient presented with hypovolemic shock and intense anemia (Hemoglobin 04.7 g/dl), and was operated on. A bleeding retroperitoneal varix located near the right colon was responsible for the clinical picture and was sutured. After operation the patient developed haemodynamic instability and pneumonia a situation which was reverted with intensive medical therapy. The patient is now doing well.

We present a case of retroperitoneal necrotizing fasciitis treated by urgent abdomino-perineal resection of the rectum with permanent colostomy. We can find no prior case in the English literature treated in this manner. Retroperitoneal occurrence of this disease is unusual. The process originated from perianal sepsis following chemotherapy for head and neck cancer.

A 44-year-old man had an abscess involving the left psoas muscle and inferior pole of the left kidney associated with characteristic sulfur granules of actinomycosis. The patient was treated with surgical drainage and debridement and with intensive and prolonged penicillin therapy, resulting in a clinical cure and resolution of both the hydronephrosis and the retroperitoneal mass.

Three patients with known or subsequently proven sarcoidosis had CT of the retroperitoneum because of clinical symptoms referable to this area. Gross splenomegaly was evident in all cases. The liver was massively enlarged in one patient and normal size in two patients. Lymphadenopathy was present in many nodal groups.

A case of a left simple renal cyst associated with hypertension is presented. Preoperative renin was elevated on the left renal vein. Hypertension disappeared after evacuation of the cyst. The possibility of renovascular hypertension in association with the cyst is considered.

In the literature reviewed, only two articles were found describing lymphographical changes caused by metastases of malignant adrenal tumours. A patient with anaplastic carcinoma of the suprarenal gland is presented here. In this patient, postoperative retroperitoneal lymphography with control films was of vital importance for the planning of post-operative treatment and follow-up.
