A teenager with a history of acute myeloid leukemia presented with headache, nausea and blurry vision over a 2 week period. The MRI of the brain was concerning for the presence of a myeloid sarcoma within the right sigmoid sinus. For evaluation of venous obstruction and the underlying lesion the patient underwent a cerebral angiogram and transvenous biopsy of the sigmoid sinus lesion using a stent retriever and aspiration catheter. The tissue extracted was consistent with myeloid sarcoma. This pathologic finding was consistent with the recurrence of leukemia and guided the targeted oncologic t

Chloroma, is an rare malignant tumor characterized by the extramedullary blast proliferation of myeloid lineages that subsequently change the normal architecture of surrounding tissues. Because this is very rare disease, primary central nervous system myeloid sarcoma has not been widely reported. Myeloid sarcoma, as a group of heterogenetic diseases, presents with differential clinical and histological pictures depending upon the primary affected site. We are presenting a 77-year-old gentleman, with past medical history of chronic lymphoblastic leukemia that was not on any treatment and who pr

BACKGROUND: Extramedullary leukemia, also known as myeloid sarcoma, is a rare form of acute myeloid leukemia and often accompanies bone marrow involvement. Myeloid infiltration of the thyroid gland is extremely rare. Here, a unique case in which thyroid cancer tissue was infiltrated with myeloid cells is presented.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of thyroid papillary cancer infiltrated by blastic cells and bilateral breast and axillary myeloid sarcoma in a 30-year-old Caucasian female patient with a history of osteosarcoma and MDS-RAEB2. The patient firstly received 6 cycles of chemother

Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) patients with concurrent FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD), nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) and DNA methyltransferase 3 alpha (DNMT3A) mutations exhibit heterogeneous treatment outcomes. To identify optimal strategies for this subset, we retrospectively analysed 2541 AML patients with next-generation sequencing from 2016 to 2023. Among them, 113 harboured triple mutations and had treatment outcomes: 79 received allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), and 34 underwent continuous chemotherapy (CMT). Compared with CMT,

Although rare, acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) can include extramedullary manifestations, sometimes presenting as a solid tumor called a myeloid sarcoma. Myeloid sarcoma can be the cause of the initial presenting complaint before AML diagnosis, or may be detected as a sign of disease-relapse after treatment. Here, we report a case in which the initial presentation included abdominal discomfort and signs of kidney failure. Further investigation revealed signs of unilateral hydronephrosis. Due to a diagnostic delay, the patient was diagnosed with AML with extramedullary manifestation only after

Myeloid sarcoma is described as tumor mass consisting of myeloblasts or immature myeloid cells, involving extramedullary tissues. It can be initial manifestation of myeloproliferative disorders or relapse of previously treated acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML). We present two patients, one with AML-M2 and the other with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL)-M3. After remission induced by conventional chemotherapy, which continued for 3 and 10 years respectively, a myeloid sarcoma was diagnosed. Biopsy of a retroauricular tumor formation was made in the first case. The second one was diagnozed aft

Chloroma, also called granulocytic sarcoma (GS) or Myeloid Sarcoma, is a rare malignant extra-medullary neoplasm of myeloid precursor cells. It is usually associated with myeloproliferative disorders but its appearance may precede the onset of leukaemia. The presence of a chloroma is certainly a sign of poor prognosis. We report a case of chloroma in a middle aged female without a prior history of leukemia in the perianal skin region with clinical diagnosis of perianal abscess. When there is no concomitant leukaemia, diagnosis of chloroma may be difficult. Differential diagnoses include acute

Erythroblastic sarcoma is a rare and aggressive hematologic malignancy presenting as a mass-forming extramedullary proliferation of immature erythroid cells. Myeloid/lymphoid neoplasms with JAK2 rearrangement, most often PCM1::JAK2, may show eosinophilia, myelofibrosis, and expansion of immature erythroid precursors. NUTM1 rearrangements, initially recognized as defining alterations of NUT carcinoma, have subsequently been identified in selected hematologic malignancies but remain exceptionally rare in myeloid neoplasms. Here, we report an adult erythroblastic sarcoma harbouring concurrent PCM

A 72-year-old white man had granulocytic sarcoma (chloroma) characterized by right ventricular failure. Seven years before his final hospitalization, a diagnosis of agnogenic myeloid metaplasia was made on bone marrow biopsy, and the patient was treated with phosphorus 32. Three months before his death, the patient developed refractory right ventricular failure. Biopsy of a mass in the anterior abdominal wall demonstrated granulocytic sarcoma. The patient died 10 days after the biopsy was performed. Autopsy showed disseminated granulocytic sarcoma with massive encasement of the heart and the g

INTRODUCTION: Chloromas are defined as metastatic granulocytic solid tumors of myeloid origin occurring at an extramedullary site. In this case report, we present an uncommon case of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) presenting with metastatic sarcoma to the dorsal spine causing acute paraparesis.
CASE REPORT: A 36-year-old male presented in the OPD with complaints of progressive upper back pain and acute paraparesis since a 1 week. The patient is a previously diagnosed case of CML on treatment for the same. MRI of the dorsal spine indicated extradural soft-tissue lesions in D5-D9 extending to t

There are different histiocytic diseases in dogs that are characterized by the proliferation of histiocytic cells (macrophages and myeloid dendritic cells). Histiocytic diseases can be devided into neoplastic (cutaneous histiocytoma complex, histiocytic sarcoma, dendritic cell leukaemia) and reactive forms (reactive histiocytosis, haemophagocytic syndrome). All subtypes of the cutaneous histiocytoma complex (cutaneous histiocytoma, metastatic histiocytoma and Langerhans' cell histiocytosis) are of Langerhans' cell origin. Histiocytoma, which is a solitary tumour of the skin in young dogs, show

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is the occurrence of primitive granulocytic precursors in various extramedullary sites. It can occur as an isolated disease, present concomitantly, or during the relapse of various myeloid neoplasms. A high index of clinical suspicion is warranted owing to its varied clinical presentation, rarity of diagnosis, inadequate immunohistochemical techniques, and challenging treatment. The occurrence of myeloid sarcoma of the testis, either as an independent entity or as an initial presentation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), is exceedingly uncommon, with only a few documented c

INTRODUCTION: The World Health Organization classification of tumors of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues recognizes acute erythroid leukemia as a distinct entity under myeloid neoplasms. Erythroblastic sarcoma, also known as extramedullary erythroid sarcoma, is defined as a rare extramedullary tumor composed of erythroid precursors, typically occurring outside the bone marrow. While both entities involve immature erythroid precursors and share similar histology, acute erythroid leukemia is a systemic marrow-based leukemia, whereas erythroblastic sarcoma is a localized mass-forming lesion. Interferon regulatory factor 8 (IRF8) is a member of the IRF family that is specific to the hematopoietic cell and is involved in regulating the development of human monocytic and dendritic-lineage cells, as well as B-cells. Because its utility as a sensitive and specific monoblast marker in the context of acute monocytic leukemias has been recently demonstrated, we hypothesized that it may also be useful as a novel immunohistochemical marker in myeloid sarcomas and blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms (BPDCNs) with respect to their differential diagnoses. In this retrospective study,

Granulocytic sarcoma is an extramedullary tumor of immature myeloid cells which is often a forerunner to the development of acute myelogenous leukemia. Granulocytic sarcoma of the gastrointestinal tract frequently involves the small intestine and often presents with abdominal pain and obstruction. Our patient presented with a proximal jejunal mass causing intussusception and obstruction. This type of manifestation has never before been reported. A laparoscopy-assisted resection of the affected portion of jejunum was performed for him. The initial pathological findings were high-grade non-Hodgk

Myeloid sarcoma is a very rare extramedullary malignant tumour, most often associated with acute myeloid leukaemia. We report the case of a man in his early 20s who presented with chronic headache, raised intracranial pressure and progressive vision loss of 2 years duration with no systemic manifestations. He had a history of myeloid sarcoma of the left thigh 15 years ago, treated with external beam radiotherapy and in complete remission for more than 13 years. However, the progressive blindness remained unexplained for 2 years, and he was eventually diagnosed with isolated meningeal relapse w

The diagnosis of myeloid neoplasms with plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) differentiation can be challenging due to immunophenotypic overlap requiring detailed characterization by flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry. We describe two patients with a history of myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) and myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm (MDS/MPN) who presented years later with leukocytosis, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, and cachexia, with rapid clinical deterioration and death. Lymph node biopsy specimens revealed involvement by myeloid sarcoma with prominent pDC differentiation. Furth
