We report a case of sigmoid colon cancer, successfully treated by a multidisciplinary strategy for local recurrence and distant metastases. This 60-year-old male patient underwent sigmoidectomy for sigmoid colon cancer. Three years after the operation, local recurrence with invasion to the left ureter was found, and we performed colectomy and left nephroureterectomy. One year after the resection, a second relapse lesion was discovered, which was considered unresectable, and was treated instead with radiation therapy(total 50 Gy). A case of metastatic thyroid cancer from sigmoid colon cancer is presented. A 52-year-old woman had a sigmoidectomy due to adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid colon in April 1988. A 74-year-old Japanese man was admitted to our hospital with anemia, 4 years after a thymectomy for thymoma associated with myasthenia gravis. A diagnosis of sigmoid colon carcinoma was confirmed, followed by surgical resection. This case is presented to reinforce that physicians should bear in mind the possibility of extrathymic malignancies in patients with thymoma.

Fourteen polps with the gross appearance of small hyperplastic (metaplastic) polyps, not exceeding five mm in diameter, were removed from the rectum and the sigmoid colon of patients during colonscopy, and from surgical specimens. Diffuse cavernous hemangioma of the rectosigmoid colon (DCHR) is an uncommon disease that affects mainly young adults. As the main symptom is non-specific chronic rectal bleeding, the clinical diagnosis is difficult and often delayed. In this essay, we illustrate the imaging features of DCHR, including plain radiograph, barium enema, CT and MR study, and echoendoscopy. Pitfalls in diagnosis and the role of imaging study in the diagnosis, in the preoperative staging, and in the follow-up of the patients are defined.
