BACKGROUND: Previous work has suggested an association between increasing size of pterygium and increasing degrees of induced corneal astigmatism.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the quantitative relation between pterygium size and induced corneal astigmatism using a computerized corneal analysis system (TMS II) and slit-lamp beam evaluation of pterygium size, and to conclude whether corneal astigmatism is an early indication for surgical intervention.

PURPOSE: To report a case of pattern dystrophy in a patient with McArdle disease, a rare autosomal recessive disorder of glycogen metabolism.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 29-year-old woman with a history of muscle biopsy-confirmed McArdle disease presented with fundus findings consistent with pattern dystrophy. Multimodal imaging, including optical coherence tomography and fundus autofluorescence, was performed.
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the third reported case of pattern dystrophy in a patient with McArdle disease.

Sirtuins are NAD+-dependent enzymes that govern cellular homeostasis by regulating the acylation status of their diverse target proteins. We recently demonstrated that both rod and cone photoreceptors rely on NAMPT-mediated NAD+ biosynthesis to meet their energetic requirements.
