Lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) are usually produced from lignin solution through supersaturation. The structure of the lignin in solution is still poorly understood due to structural variability of isolated lignins. Here, lignins were extracted from different plants to establish a general pattern of their structure in several lignin solvents. We investigated the possible beneficial effect of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) on peripheral nerve repair in rats. Methods: Seventy rats were divided into four groups: control, sham, DMSO-L, and DMSO-IP. Except in the control group, nerve repair was done at the right sciatic nerve. DMSO was administered locally and intraperitoneally for 12 weeks to the DMSO-L and DMSO-IP groups, respectively. We have looked at different parameters which could modify platelet behaviour during and after aequorin loading in the presence of DMSO. There is a decreased platelet reactivity in response to ADP, PAF and A-23,187 which appears to be mainly due to the exposure to EGTA during washing and loading and the 1 ml volume of the test suspension. All the studied agonists (including PMA) which elicit aggregation are able to induce an intracellular Ca2+ change detected with the aequorin probe. By contrast, epinephrine alone induces neither aggregation nor Ca2+ rise, but potentiates the responses to ADP.

The oxidation of PTH(1-34) catalyzed by ferrous ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is site-specific. The oxidation of PTH(1-34) is localized primarily to the residues Met[8] and His[9]. Beyond the transformation of Met[8] and His[9] into methionine sulfoxide and 2-oxo-histidine, respectively, we observed a hydrolytic cleavage between Met[8] and His[9]. This hydrolysis requires the presence of Fe(II) and oxygen and can be prevented by diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) and phosphate buffer. Conditions leading to this site-specific hydrolysis also promote the transformation of Met[8]

We evaluated the metabolism of fluphenazine (FLU) in patients treated with either the oral form of FLU or with fluphenazine decanoate (FD). Samples for both patient populations were analyzed using four different radioimmunoassays developed in our laboratories for fluphenazine, fluphenazine sulfoxide (FS), 7-hydroxy fluphenazine (7OHFLU), and fluphenazine N-oxide (FLUNO). The contribution of the gastrointestinal microflora to the formation of methylthio adducts from paracetamol has been studied by comparing the fate of this drug in conventional mice with that in germ-free and neomycin-treated animals. The painful bladder syndrome (PBS) is a progressive and painful disease of the bladder that may lead to fibrosis, contracture and reduction of bladder capacity. The usual symptoms are urinary urgency, frequency, nocturia, chronic pelvic pain and lower abdominal pain upon filling of the bladder. Sterile hemorrhagic cystitis developed in 5 dogs after treatment with cyclophosphamide.
