Even though there are few complications with endoscopic surgery, some are life threatening. Pneumothorax is among these complications. Timely recognition and rapid diagnosis is essential. This is a case of a routine laparoscopy that was complicated by bilateral pneumothorax, and its diagnosis and treatment.

From June 1977 to January 1987, 175 patients underwent surgical treatment of childhood pleural empyema. The surgical treatment consisted of tube drainage in 159 (90%) cases, decortication in 31 (17%) cases, pleuropneumonectomy in 2, lobectomy in 1, and partial thoracoplasty in one cases. There were 2 hospital deaths (14 and 26 days after admission). Late recurrences didn't occur, except in one case where a partial thoracoplasty was necessary. The aim of this study was to assess the early results of a three-year experience with the minimally invasive correction of pectum excavatum, which requires no cartilage incision or excision, and no sternal osteotomy. Since 2001 we have performed 35 minimally invasive pectus excavatum procedures at our hospital. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy, complications and safety of the application of transbronchoscopic balloon detection (TBD) and selective bronchial occlusion (SBO) to intractable pneumothorax.
METHODS: Forty patients with pneumothorax, who had experienced more than 7 days of chest tube drainage without closure of the pleural fistula, underwent TBD and SBO. In 10 patients, oxygenation and pulse rates were recorded. A thoracic CT scan was performed 10 days after SBO.
