One of the most used rotary files in endodontics is NiTi files due to their superelastic properties. This property means that this instrument has extraordinary flexion that can adapt to large angles inside the tooth canals. However, these files lose their superelasticity and fracture during use. The aim of this work is to determine the cause of fracture of the endodontic rotary files. For this purpose, 30 NiTi F6 SkyTaper® files (Komet, Germany) were used. Their chemical composition was determined by X-ray microanalysis, and their microstructure was determined by optical microscopy. Successive

Dental caries and dental restorations possess a long history and over the years, many materials and methods have been invented. In recent decades, modern techniques and materials have brought complexity to this issue, which has created the necessity to investigate more and more to achieve durability, consistency, proper mechanical properties, efficiency, beauty, good colour, and reduced costs and time. Combined with the recent advances in the medical field, mechanical engineering plays a significant role in this topic. This work aims at studying the elasto-static response of a human molar toot

A search of the medical and dental records at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania was conducted to identify dogs that received full or partial prosthodontic crowns over a 13-year period (2000-2012). Forty-one dogs with a total of 68 prosthodontic crowns were identified. Further criteria for acceptance into the study included presence of complete medical records containing adequate information pertaining to the procedures performed, and current follow-up either by telephone, electronic mail, or via in-person examination. Treatment was considered to be succe

The dental pulp is essential for tooth health and sensory function. However, conventional treatments for infected or necrotic pulp, such as root canal therapy, frequently result in tooth loss and increased fracture risk. Regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) aim to regenerate pulp tissue while preserving tooth vitality. Exosomes from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (hUCMSCs) demonstrated potential for tissue regeneration. In this case report, the potential of hUCMSC-derived exosomes for regenerating the dental pulp of a pulpectomized tooth was investigated. The patient,

Unlike fractures of the remaining facial skeleton, fractures of the non-condylar part of the mandible are invariably treated surgically, with the potential risk of further iatrogenic injury. There is, however, a substantial evidence gap pertaining to the potential non-surgical management of such injuries. The aim of this study was to determine the outcomes of mandibular fractures treated with non-surgical management. All patients with mandibular fractures who were referred to a large regional major trauma service over a one-year period (1 January-31 December 2021) were identified. Those treate

PURPOSE: Mandibular fractures represent a substantial portion of facial fractures in the pediatric population. Pediatric mandibles differ from their adult counterparts in the presence of mixed dentition. Avoidance of injury to developing tooth follicles is critical. Simple mandibular fractures can be treated with intermaxillary fixation (IMF) using arch bars or bone screws. This report describes an alternative to these methods using silk sutures and an algorithm to assist in treating simple mandibular fractures in the pediatric population.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective chart review wa

Dentoalveolar trauma is an important etiologic factor for tooth loss. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment is necessary because the functional, esthetic, and psychosocial problems that result from dentoalveolar trauma can significantly influence the patient's quality of life. The objective of this article is to describe the multidisciplinary treatment of a 39-year-old man who experienced dentoalveolar trauma in a bicycle accident. Clinical and tomographic examinations revealed the avulsion of the maxillary left central incisor as well as coronal fractures of the other incisors and the max

To assess whether access cavity design influences the fracture strength of endodontically treated and restored molars. Fifty human lower molars with standard crown dimensions were selected and assigned to the following groups: S - positive control (healthy tooth), ET - negative control (conventional endodontic access (CEA) and no restoration), NI - negative control (minimally invasive endodontic access (MEA) and no restoration), ETR (CEA + restoration with Bulkfill flow) and NIR (MEA + restoration with Bulkfill flow). The specimens were subjected to a compression test. The teeth were inspected

During daily routine oral examinations in a research colony of nonhuman primates (NHPs, Macaca fascicularis), a variety of oral-dental lesions were identified. A dental care program was established based on these findings. Based on the presence of dental clinical signs and their severity, 31 animals were triaged to be examined and treated by a veterinarian. Clinical examination consisted of visual inspection using a periodontal probe/explorer and full or partial mouth dental radiographs. Treatment was performed during the same procedure. Some animals had a follow-up examination including radio

Examination of 110 cheek teeth (CT) that were clinically extracted (between 2004 and 2008) because of apical infection (n=79; mean dental age 3.5 years) or idiopathic CT fractures (n=31; median dental age 8.5 years), including examinations of transverse and longitudinal sections, showed the apical infections to be mainly (68%) due to anachoresis, with the residual cases caused by periodontal spread, infundibular caries spread, fissure fractures and dysplasia. The idiopathic fracture patterns were similar to previously described patterns. Occlusal pulpar exposure was found in 32% of apically in

The conservative approach in the treatment of maxillofacial trauma in children has been widely adopted. The type of fracture and its presence within the growing facial skeleton along with the presence of tooth buds may result in different management strategies to that employed in adults. An understanding of conservative treatment options is essential to make informed choices which will best manage these injuries, and an example is presented in this paper. This case report describes a 14-year-old boy who sustained trauma to the chin as a result of a fall, causing a mandibular symphyseal fractur

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Removal of cheek teeth in all but the aged horse or pony is a serious undertaking with potentially deleterious sequellae. Rigid endoscopy permits detailed examination of the oral cavity and erupted dental tissues and has the potential to assist in the correct identification of the diseased tooth.
OBJECTIVES: To document oral endoscopic findings associated with infected equine cheek teeth in cases without gross oral pathological changes and thereby determine the usefulness of rigid oral endoscopy as an aid to diagnosis of such infections.
METHODS: Records of all

PATIENT: A 67-year-old female with root fracture of the maxillary central incisor underwent implant placement immediately after extraction, with the goal of shortening the treatment period. The superstructure was placed on the implant after a 4-month healing period. Review 5 years after implant loading revealed no clinical problems.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The treatment time was shortened effectively by the flapless immediate post-extraction placement procedure. Immediate post-extraction implant placement based on proper examination and diagnosis would reduce the patient burden.
