Treatment of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections is a challenging task due to long treatment regiments and a growing number of resistant clinical isolates. To identify new antibiotic hits, we screened a focused library of 400 synthetic compounds derived from a recently discovered molecule with promising anti-mycobacterial activity. INTRODUCTION: Candida albicans infection shows a wide range of patterns on chest computed tomography, including ground glass opacities and consolidation, with the miliary pattern being the least frequent. We report a case of a 13-year-old girl with an asymptomatic isoniazid-resistant tuberculosis contact. Six months after the contact had been made, chest radiography showed left upper lobe infiltrates without hilar lymphadenopathy, which led to the start of an antituberculous treatment. Tuberculin skin test remained negative and blood tests showed hypereosinophilia. One month after the onset of the treatment, she presented with asthenia, weight loss, and cough. She was admitted to our unit with a diagnosis of drug-resistant tuberculosis. Blood tests showed the persistence of hypereosinophilia. C

A wild-caught, adult red fox (Vulpes vulpes) from Doñana National Park (southern Spain), in very poor condition, died during anesthesia. BACKGROUND: The preferred antiretroviral regimen for young children previously exposed to non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors is lopinavir/ritonavir plus two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
