STUDY OBJECTIVE: Contribution to evaluation of the place of laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of perforated peptic ulcer.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between January 1992 and November 1997. 17 consecutive patients underwent laparoscopic suture of a perforated peptic ulcer, with or without omentoplasty.

Dynamics and distribution of ulcer disease in population in the period 1987-1996 were analyzed on the basis of morbidity and mortality rate registered at clinics and institutes in Novi Sad. During the analyzed period 4.111 cases of ulcer disease were hospitalized and 47 with lethal outcome. Duodenal ulcer (2,739) is twice as frequent as gastric ulcer (1,372). Both localisations of ulcer disease are more frequent in males, and specific morbidity shows constant rise towards the older age groups. AIM: The study of alkaline gastric secretion in health and disease and its changes in response to blockers of H2-histamine receptors.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The trial enrolled 74 patients with duodenal ulcer (DU), 28 patients with chronic gastric (CG) and 16 healthy controls. The secretion was studied initially, in administration of ranitidine, in stimulation with hydrochloric acid.

We report a case of gastrojejunal fistula caused by benign gastric ulcer, a very rare condition. The patient was an 81-year-old-woman who had had multiple recurrences of gastric ulcer. A study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of simple closure followed by drug therapy in cases of perforated duodenal ulcer and to identify the risk factors in relation to the mortality. The male to female ratio was 5:1. Of the patients 59.2% were up to 50 years of age, while 40.8% were above the age of 50 years. Of the patients 47% were admitted 24 hours after the onset of peritonitis. All these patients were surgically treated with simple closure of the perforation with omental patch. As laparoscopy becomes more prevalent, it is being used for a growing variety of abdominal operations, both electively and as emergency treatment. Marjolin's ulcer is a term used to describe squamous cell carcinomas which develop in chronic wounds. A group of 133 patients treated for bleeding peptic ulcer in our Department, is reviewed. Within several hours of admission, all patients underwent upper gastrointestinal tract gastroscopy and obliteration of the bleeding ulcer.
