When mammalian spermatozoa exit the testis, they show a highly specialized morphology; however, they are not yet able to carry out their task: to fertilize an oocyte. This property, that includes the acquisition of motility and the ability to recognize and to fuse with the oocyte investments, is gained only after a transit through the epididymis during which the spermatozoa from the testis travel to the vas deferens. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of percutaneous vasography in the diagnosis of the disorders of the seminal duct system.
METHODS: Percutaneous vasography was performed successfully in 63 male patients (24 cases of infertility, and 21 hemospermia, 16 chronic prostatitis, and prostate carcinoma) from November 1974 to December 2003.
RESULTS: Vasography revealed abnormal ducts in 28 and disorders in 38 (60.3%), including 8 cases of sterility, 13 seminal vesiculitis, 16 chronic prostatitis 5 seminal vesical cyst, and 2 prostate carcinoma.
CONCLUSION: Percutaneous vasography is an effective meth

The new microsurgical techniques, tubule and loop intussusception, are compared to end-to-end and side-to-end in an experimental rat model. Sixty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were operated on bilaterally under the same conditions. A total of 15 patients with proved chronic bacterial prostatitis underwent bilateral seminal vesiculography to determine the morphological appearance of the seminal vesicles and the ampulla ducti deferentis in this condition. A pathological condition, such as segmental stenosis or complete shriveling of the seminal vesicles, was obvious in 21 of 24 vesiculograms (87.5 per cent), while malformations of the ampulla were seen in 7 (29.1 per cent). The role of chronic bacterial prostatitis as an important pathogenetic factor in the history of epididymo-orchitis is discussed.

The authors report their statistical results of 40 subjects that were explored and where double epididymo-deferens anastomoses were achieved. When quantifying imposex in Nucella lapillus, two indices are used: the Vas Deferens Sequence Index (VDSI) and the Relative Penis Size Index (RPSI). Freezing and thawing increase the length of the penis in both male and female Nucella lapillus. In the population studied, this had no significant effect on the RPSI, but was potentially an important source of additional variance in the estimation of the mean penis length.

Laparoscopy is a simple, safe and sure diagnostic method in order to visualize an abdominal testis. When there is no abdominal testis at laparoscopy, the vas deferens and the testicular vessels have to be looked for very carefully. When both these structures pass through the internal inguinal ring, operation can be limited to the inguinal region. The results of laparoscopy are reported in nine patients with impalpable testis.

Acute vasitis, or inflammation of the vas deferens, is a rare condition that classically presents with unilateral groin pain radiating into the scrotum and a bulge or induration along the inguinal canal. In this study, we aimed to state the relationship between testis, epididymis and vas deference, in adult cases with nonpalpable testis. Between January 1996 and December 2009, we evaluated 154 adult cases with nonpalpable testes. Mean age was 23 years (20-27 years).
