BACKGROUND: Myxoid leiomyosarcomas originating from the Bartholin gland are exceedingly rare. Only one other case of a Bartholin gland myxoid leiomyosarcoma has been reported.
CASE: Our patient presented with a 10 cm mass on her vulva, which was presumed to be a Bartholin gland cyst. Pathology showed a high-grade myxoid leiomyosarcoma with positive margins. She was treated with left radical hemivulvectomy, laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and six cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy. She is now 1 year from completion of therapy and remains disease-free.

BACKGROUND: Fibrous hamartoma of infancy is a benign mesenchymal tumor occurring infrequently in children, typically involving the axilla.
CASE REPORT: An 18-month-old girl with a history of right labium majus enlargement, on examination, had a hard mass that was found strictly adherent to subcutaneous tissue and overlying skin. Postexcision histological examination showed arranged spindle cells, adipose tissue, and nests of immature small cells in a myxoid background, consistent with fibrous hamartoma of infancy.
CONCLUSIONS: The main problem in the diagnosis is differentiating this lesion

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare soft tissue tumor of the pelvis. Notorious for its locally infiltrative behavior, this tumor is identified by pathological appearance. Grossly gelatinous, spindle cells widely separated by collagen fibrils with vascular components can be microscopically visualized. Wide local excision is the treatment of choice. A 19-year-old woman presented with a periurethral mass that extended beyond the hymen with Valsalva. With imaging, the differential was narrowed to a soft tissue mass. Surgical excision was performed and histopathological findings were consistent with t

BACKGROUND: Vulval cancer is a rare gynaecological cancer. There is no standard approach for treating locally advanced primary vulval cancer (FIGO stage III and IV). Combined treatment modalities have been developed using radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery. The advantages and disadvantages of such treatment is not well evaluated.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of neoadjuvant and primary chemoradiation for women with locally advanced primary vulval cancer compared to other primary modalities of treatment such as primary surgery or primary radiation.

Epithelioid sarcoma of the vulva is an extremely rare and aggressive tumor. This tumor most commonly occurs on the labia majora in women of reproductive age. The molecular pathogenesis remains largely unknown. Only 20 cases of vulvar epithelioid sarcoma have been reported to date and more than half have had poor outcomes. We report a successfully treated case of vulvar epithelioid sarcoma in a 33-year-old woman. We performed a radical vulvectomy with flap reconstruction. Three years after surgery, the patient remains well, showing no evidence of recurrence. Early tissue diagnosis of vulvar epi

OBJECTIVE: Vulvar hemangioma is an extremely rare pathology in adult women causing sexual dysfunction, pain, and cosmetic problems requiring therapeutic intervention.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We present a case of an isolated giant vulvar cavernous hemangioma with a 2-year history that macroscopically seemed to be a vulvar varicosis but was actually detected at the end to be cavernous hemangioma in an adult patient with no history of other disease.
RESULTS: The patient was treated with surgical excision because of progressive complaints. Histopathologic evaluation suggested cavernous hemangioma

Only three cases of clitoral schwannoma have been reported in the English language literature, with none of them being a plexiform schwannoma. Here we report the first plexiform schwannoma of the clitoris. A 41-year-old woman without neurofibromatosis presented with a 2 x 2 cm, slowly growing, painless tumor of the clitoris. Simple excision of the tumor was performed, and pathological examination revealed a plexiform schwannoma. No evidence of recurrence was noted after 2 years of follow-up. Despite its rarity, a schwannoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of a clitoral enlarge

Fanconi's anemia (FA) is rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by aplastic anemia, congenital anomalies, and cancer susceptibility. FA patients have deficiencies in DNA repair pathways that cause cellular sensitivity to ionizing radiation and cross-link agents such as mitomycin C and diepoxybutane (DEB). If these patients survive until early adulthood, they are at high risk for developing solid tumors, most commonly squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx, esophagus, and vulva. Treatment of these solid tumors with radiotherapy is complicated by the increased risk of normal tissue t

Vulvar carcinomas account for almost 3-5% of all malignant tumors of the female genital organs. The primary therapeutic approach is surgical in all cases. Since 1994, we have used a separate "S" incision for inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy in the treatment of invasive vulvar carcinoma. In the period from 1985 to 2003, 46 patients with invasive forms of vulvar carcinoma were operated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Novi Sad. Inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy was performed in 37 (84.4%) patients. During 1994, a wide "block" dissection of the vulva, mons pubis and inguinal area of a

PURPOSE OF INVESTIGATION: Our aim was to outline the treatment of carcinoma of the vulva at the National Oncological Centre in Sofia, Bulgaria.
METHODS: We examined the records of 250 patients over a 10-year period treated at the Gynaecologic-Oncology Clinic of our Centre.
RESULTS: There were 130 patients (52%) treated with surgery and radiation. There were 120 patients (48%) treated by surgery only. Thirty of these patients were treated by pelvic exenteration with radical vulvectomy. The five-year survival rate was 36% - 12 patients. The 1-year survival rate for all patients was 80% - 200 p

BACKGROUND: Sebaceous gland hyperplasia is a common condition of the face in elderly patients. We report a case of sebaceous gland hyperplasia on the vulva.
CASE: A 19-year-old woman presented with a polypoid tumor on her left labium majus of which the greatest diameter was 2.5 cm, covered by normal appearing skin. Histologic examination revealed a sebaceous gland hyperplasia. Immunohistochemical techniques showed high expression of androgen receptors on sebaceous cells.
CONCLUSION: Clinical and gross features of the two documented cases of sebaceous gland hyperplasia on the vulva are differ

Dermal lymphangioma of the vulva is a rare disorder of the lymphatic system. The mainstay of therapy has been vulvectomy. A 65-year-old woman with a remote history of cervical cancer who successfully underwent CO2 laser vaporization for extensive vulva lymphangiomata, and a literature review inclusive of all 28 previously reported cases are described. Ten (35.7%) of these patients had previously received pelvic radiation for cervical cancer, 8 of whom (80%) had also undergone radical hysterectomy. Including the present case, 5 patients, 3 of whom had previously received radiation therapy, have

Verruciform xanthoma is a benign lesion of the oral cavity and skin, which is characterized by aggregates of bland foamy histiocytes (xanthoma cells) within the connective tissue and underlying acanthotic, parakeratotic hyperplastic epithelium with elongated rete ridges. We describe a rare case of vulval verruciform xanthoma in an 84-year-old, which was clinically mistaken for malignant tumor. Immunohistochemistry confirmed the histiocytic nature of the foamy cells and electron microscopy showed the cytoplasmic vacuoles to contain lipid. A finding as yet undocumented in the literature was the
