Airway challenges in bilateral temporomandibular joint ankylosis with adenoid hypertrophy: a case report.

Temporomandibular joint ankylosis is one of the most challenging airway disorders associated with varying anatomical abnormalities like adenotonsillar hypertrophy, craniofacial malformations, macroglossia, etc. This case highlights the intubation difficulties confronted during the airway management of a 10-year-old girl presenting lately with bilateral temporomandibular joint ankylosis, hypoplastic mandible, and adenoid hypertrophy. This patient was intubated successfully by using a suction catheter assembly to negotiate the endotracheal tube across the adenoid, and an unmatched-size flexible

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the larynx in a 70-year-old patient: A case report.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a relatively rare tumor that accounts for <1% of all head and neck malignancies. Laryngeal localization of ACC, which is most commonly hypoglottic, is relatively rare, occurring in 0.07-0.25% of all laryngeal tumors. ACC is characterized as a slow-growing tumor with a high recurrence rate, which often causes dyspnea and hoarseness. ACC exhibits a propensity for perineural invasion and thus, patients may experience pain as a late symptom of the disease. Distant metastasis occurs in 35-50% of cases and the lungs are the most common site of metastasis. Tumors are

Postoperative complications following tonsil and adenoid removal in Kuwaiti children: A retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Adenoidectomy and adenotonsillectomy are two of the most common procedures that are performed by otolaryngologists around the world. Complications, ranging from major to minor ones, are affected by the preoperative symptoms and health status of the patient. We aimed to identify the prevalence of major postadenoidectomy and adenotonsillectomy complications, including bleeding, and minor complications, including malodor, fever, and snoring. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective chart review of 825 patients who underwent surgery between January 2002 and 30 December 2016

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast: Experience at a tertiary care centre of Northern India.

INTRODUCTION: Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast (breast-ACC) is a rare tumor with a favorable prognosis, despite its triple-negative status and special type of basal-like tumor for which scant population-based descriptive data exist. We sought to provide new population-based information on breast-ACC in India. Due to the paucity of the number of cases, the natural history of the disease is not fully understood. This study was undertaken to examine the clinico-pathological characteristics of the disease and to evaluate the outcome of surgical intervention in a tertiary referral care centre

Oropharyngeal adenoid cystic carcinoma invading the mandibular bone through the mandibular foramen.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare epithelial tumor of the head and neck region, and one of the most common malignant tumors of the salivary glands. ACC is a slow-growing tumor characterized by perineural invasion and often has a high-recurrence rate. We describe a case of oropharyngeal ACC invading the mandibular bone through the mandibular foramen that showed a rare pattern of origin and invasion. A 70-year-old woman complained of noise and pain around the right temporomandibular joint. Osteomyelitis was suspected on the initial imaging examinations, although the findings were slightly

Adenoid cystic carcinoma presenting with bilateral orbital extension from the soft palate.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare neoplasm of secretory epithelium that most commonly occurs in the fifth and sixth decades of life. It is characterized by high recurrence rates and poor response to chemotherapy, In the orbit, ACC usually presents as a lacrimal gland mass. We describe the rare case of a 70-year-old woman who presented with pain during mastication and bilateral facial numbness in the cranial nerve V2 distribution. She was found to have adenoid cystic carcinoma involving the orbits bilaterally without lacrimal gland involvement and without a clear primary tumor. Imaging s

A Phase II Study of Dovitinib in Patients with Recurrent or Metastatic Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.

Purpose: Genetic and preclinical studies have implicated FGFR signaling in the pathogenesis of adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). Dovitinib, a suppressor of FGFR activity, may be active in ACC.Experimental Design: In a two-stage phase II study, 35 patients with progressive ACC were treated with dovitinib 500 mg orally for 5 of 7 days continuously. The primary endpoints were objective response rate and change in tumor growth rate. Progression-free survival, overall survival, metabolic response, biomarker, and quality of life were secondary endpoints. Results: Of 34 evaluable patients, 2 (6%) had a

Postoperative Intensity-Modulated Proton Therapy for Head and Neck Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.

PURPOSE: Postoperative radiation therapy can improve control for adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the head and neck; however, delivering adequate dose to the tumor bed must be balanced with limiting dose to nearby critical organs. Intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) may help improve the therapeutic ratio, though concerns exist regarding tissue heterogeneity and other sources of uncertainty in several head and neck subsites. We report control and toxicity outcomes for patients with ACC of the head and neck treated at a single institution with postoperative IMPT and robust planning and an

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the parotid gland associated with salivary calculi: An unusual presentation.

Adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACC) of the head and neck are relatively rare tumors, consisting of approximately 10-15% of all salivary gland neoplasms. ACC, a slow-growing aggressive malignant tumor of salivary gland commonly seen in the submandibular, sublingual, minor salivary glands is seldom found in the parotid. Calculus, the common cause of salivary gland dysfunction is usually identified in submandibular salivary gland because of its duct anatomy and physiochemical characteristic serous secretion. We report an unusual case of co-existent presentation of ACC with salivary calculi in the par

Adenoid Vegetations - Reservoir of Bacteria for Chronic Otitis Media with Effusion and Chronic Rhinosinusitis.

INTRODUCTION: Otitis media and rhinosinusitis are commonly encountered illnesses in pediatric population. Literature reports have documented the association between the occurrence of these two conditions and even their almost identical microbiological findings. Until recently, the key factor in the association of these two conditions was considered to be the hypertrophic adenoid tissue, but within the past few years there have been evidences in the literature about the presence of bacterial biofilms on the adenoids suggesting biofilms to be also responsible for both conditions, chronic otitis …

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of Bartholin's Gland Clinically Mimics Endometriosis, A Case Report.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of Bartholin's gland is a rare malignant tumor of female genital tract. We report a case of a 42-year-old woman, presenting a palpable painful mass and burning sensation on the left side of vulva during the preceding two months. Based on examination, a solid fixed painful nodule with intact mucosa was palpated on the left side of the vagina. Histological features were compatible with adenoid cystic carcinoma. Often, such lesion is clinically misdiagnosed as a cyst or inflammation. The present case was carried out with an impression of endometriosis. The possibility of
