Balloon angioplasty of coarctation of the aorta evaluated with intravascular ultrasound imaging.

Intravascular ultrasound images were employed to evaluate aortic coarctation before and after balloon angioplasty. Measurements obtained with use of an ultrasound imaging catheter correlated well with measurements made with digital aortography, both in the area of coarctation and in areas proximal and distal to it. The intravascular ultrasound images dramatically revealed dissection of the aortic wall and an intimal flap that was not appreciated on cineaortography or digital subtraction angiography. Intravascular ultrasound imaging may yield important morphologic information unavailable by oth

Stenting-assisted embolization of a saccular aneurysm of the azygos anterior cerebral artery associated with fenestration at its beginning.

Aneurysms of the azygos anterior cerebral artery (AACA) associated with fenestration are exceptional. We reported such a case. A 61-year-old woman presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Computed tomography angiography and digital subtraction angiography showed an aneurysm at the distal end of the AACA with a fenestration at its beginning. Stenting-assisted coiling of the aneurysm was performed. The postoperative recovery was uneventful. Follow-up DSA showed complete coiling of the aneurysm. By this case report and review of the literature, we found that the coexistence of the aneurysm and fen

Active Rebleeding of a Ruptured Middle Cerebral Artery Aneurysm During Diagnostic Catheter Angiography.

Rebleeding of cerebral aneurysms has been previously reported during diagnostic angiography. However, capturing the exact moment of active rebleeding of a cerebral aneurysm during angiography is extremely rare. Here, a case of a rebleeding middle cerebral artery aneurysm during diagnostic digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was illustrated, accompanied with a video demonstration of the incident which is the only one in the literature. During the acquisition of lateral projection DSA images, active extravasation of the contrast medium was witnessed, indicating rebleeding. Simultaneously, ther

Images Diagnosis and Emergent Endovascular Treatment of Acute Hemorrhagic Basilar Artery Dissection: A Case Report.

PURPOSE: Basilar artery dissection (BAD) is a rare but possibly fatal disease with specific neuroimage findings. The management of BAD varies. This report describes a case with hemorrhagic BAD treated by endovascular stent-assisted coil embolization. CASE REPORT: We report an 82-year-old case of acute mid basilar artery dissection complicated with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and hydrocephalus, which was diagnosed by complete neuroimage surveys including computed tomography angiography (CTA), magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), and digital subtracti

Spinal arteriovenous fistula with progressive paraplegia after spinal anaesthesia.

A case of an iatrogenic spinal arteriovenous fistula with progressive paraplegia in a young woman is reported. The fistula was eventually created after repetitive lumbar punctures performed in the process of spinal anaesthesia. Her symptoms were progressed to paraplegia over a period of 2 years. The digital subtraction angiography demonstrated a single-hole fistula, involving the anterior spinal artery and vein. The lesion was occluded by embolization with immediate improvement. The potential mechanism is discussed.

Correlating hemodynamic magnetic resonance imaging with high-field intracranial vessel wall imaging in stroke.

Vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging at ultra-high field (7 Tesla) can be used to visualize vascular lesions noninvasively and holds potential for improving stroke-risk assessment in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease. We present the first multi-modal comparison of such high-field vessel wall imaging with more conventional (i) 3 Tesla hemodynamic magnetic resonance imaging and (ii) digital subtraction angiography in a 69-year-old male with a left temporal ischemic infarct.

Giant extracranial aneurysms of both internal carotid arteries with aberrant jugular veins in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 1.

Although neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) is commonly considered neurocutaneous, severe arterial and venous abnormalities have been noted. Our patient, a 28-year-old woman, had bilateral giant extracranial aneurysms of the internal carotid arteries as well as skull base meningoceles involving the jugular foramina and aberrant jugular veins. CT and MR imaging, as well as digital subtraction and/or other angiography techniques, may be required to clarify pathology in patients with suggested vascular lesions.

Bilateral tentorial subdural hematoma without subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to anterior communicating artery aneurysm rupture: a case report and review of the literature.

A case of acute subdural hematoma over the tentorium secondary to rupture of an anterior communicating artery aneurysm is reported. A 42-year-old female patient presented with acute-onset, severe bifrontal and retro-orbital headache. CT revealed only symmetric thickening of the tentorium. MR imaging revealed the presence of a 10-mm anterior communicating artery aneurysm, which was confirmed by digital subtraction angiography. The radiologic findings and possible mechanisms of this hemorrhage are discussed.

Spontaneous arterial thrombosis in association with pancreatic carcinoma: diagnosis and interventional management.

A 58-year-old woman presented with bilateral upper limb ischaemia. Digital subtraction angiography demonstrated upper limb arterial thrombosis, extensive on the left. This was initially treated with catheter-directed thrombolysis which cleared the thrombus on the right, although the left upper limb required supplementary surgical embolectomy. Subsequently, biopsy-proven pancreatic adenocarcinoma was detected. The upper limb arterial thrombosis appeared to be spontaneous in association with the malignancy because there was no obvious embolic source.

DSA diagnosis of pulmonary embolization from intracardial thrombus in a patient with permanent pacing catheter.

Pulmonary embolization in patients with implanted pacemakers is rare and an intracardiac thrombus attached to the distal end of a newly implanted ventricular endocardial electrode following removal of a previously implanted lead is a curiosity. We have documented such a case by digital subtraction angiography, a minimally invasive procedure that demonstrates both an intracardiac thrombus and secondary pulmonary embolization in a single procedure, which also allows simplified follow-up evaluation following therapy.

Moya-Moya Disease Revealed by a Non-lobar Intracerebral Hemorrhage in an Adult.

Moya-Moya disease (MMD) is a rare cerebral vasculopathy affecting children and adults. It is a progressive steno-occlusive arterial disease generally discovered during the etiological assessment of an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. Its diagnosis is based essentially on imaging. Cerebral digital subtraction angiography (DSA) remains the gold standard. We report the case of a 42-year-old male patient admitted for the loss of consciousness with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 12/15. A brain CT scan revealed a right capsulo-lenticular hematoma with ventricular flooding and hydrocephalus. Cerebral C

An Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery-Esophageal Fistula-A Fatal Complication of a Common Anomaly: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

An aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA), also called as arteria lusoria, is one of the most common aortic arch anomalies. ARSA-esophageal fistula is a rare, life-threatening complication, with only 37 cases reported in literature. We describe a case of a young girl who developed acute episode of massive hematemesis after the recovery from novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia. Computed tomography (CT) angiography showed ARSA with retroesophageal course and active contrast leak in esophagus. Digital subtraction angiography confirmed the site of active contrast extravasation fro

Dissection of the V3-V4 due to whiplash injury: description of a non-fatal case.

Whiplash injuries, a common sequel of road traffic accidents, may be defined as a musculo-ligamentous sprain resulting from forced acceleration/deceleration and flexion/ extension neck injury. We report a non-fatal case of vertebral right artery dissection after a minor rear-lateral collision. The injury was detected twenty-four days after trauma when a computerized tomography (CT) scan and cerebral angiography revealed multiple ischemic lesions of the right cerebellum. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has been the most sensitive imaging modality to describe the types and degree of vascul

Adrenal Tumor Vessels Segmentation Using Convolutional Neural Network in Computed Tomography Angiography.

The adrenal glands are important endocrine glands in humans. They are in complex environments with thin vessels around them. It's meaningful to get the accurate dissection before surgery. However, images used in hospitals are now unable to help doctors with many surgeries, which are produced by digital subtraction angiography. In this study, we used a 3D U-Net model to segment the adrenal tumor vessels in 3D computed tomography angiography slices. The model was evaluated by dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and mean intersection over union (MIoU) with the manually labeled ground truth. The DSC

Bihemispheric posterior inferior cerebellar artery occurring with an azygos anterior cerebral artery: case study.

Variations in intracranial vasculature are well known. We report a rare anatomic variation in a patient who underwent cerebral angiography for suspected intracranial aneurysm. Digital subtraction angiography revealed a bihemispheric posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) and an azygous anterior cerebral artery (ACA). There was no evidence of any aneurysm or vascular abnormality. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a patient with a common PICA supplying both the cerebellar hemispheres and a common ACA supplying ACA territory bilaterally. It is important for the physician t

Carotid-cavernous fistula caused by rupture of persistent primitive trigeminal artery trunk aneurysm--case report.

A 60-year-old female presented with a carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) manifesting as left abducens nerve palsy. Left internal carotid digital subtraction angiography showed a persistent primitive trigeminal artery (PPTA) near the CCF. Super-selective angiography showed direct shunt flow between the PPTA trunk aneurysm and the left cavernous sinus. The aneurysm was successfully occluded with detachable coils. The CCF disappeared and the PPTA was preserved. The abducens nerve paralysis had disappeared 6 months later. CCF caused by a PPTA trunk aneurysm is extremely rare. We speculate that the PP

[Ruptured vertebral artery dissecting aneurysm presented with vertebral artery occlusion: a case report].

We report a rare case of a ruptured vertebral artery dissecting aneurysm (VADA) with affected vertebral artery (VA) occlusion. A 66-year-old hypertensive man presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage. No cerebeller sign or cranial nerve palsy was found on admission. Initial CT angiography and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) revealed the right VA occlusion. On the three days after onset, the right VA was recanalized and visualized as a posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA)-involved VADA. Endovascular internal trapping of the right VA including PICA origin was performed. In conclusion,

Hemorrhagic infarction originating from vertebral artery stenosis caused by an osteophyte at the C5 superior articular process.

A 62-year-old man presented with right upper homonymous quadrihemianopsia. Magnetic resonance imaging showed hemorrhagic infarctions in the bilateral occipital lobes and infarction in the left cerebellar hemisphere. Digital subtraction angiography and three-dimensional computed tomography angiography revealed right vertebral artery (VA) stenosis caused by an osteophyte at the C5 superior articular process. The VA stenosis was aggravated by neck extension. The brain infarctions were attributed to embolism from the right VA stenosis. Unroofing of the anterior root of the right C4 transverse fora

[Renovascular hypertension].

The accuracy of various noninvasive screening tests for the detection of renal artery stenosis (urography, duplex scanning, radionuclide scintirenography, intravenous digital subtraction angiography, spiral CT and MR angiography) is discussed. All these methods may show false-negative and false-positive results. Therefore, in the case of a high index of clinical suspicion (i.e. refractory hypertension, recent elevation of serum creatinine, renal dysfunction, asymmetry of kidney size) renal arteriography must be performed. Since the natural history of atherosclerotic and fibrous renal artery st

Preoperative embolization of brain tumor with pial artery or dural branch of internal carotid artery as feeding artery.

This study evaluated the clinical usefulness of preoperative embolization of the pial artery or dural branch of the internal carotid artery (ICA) for brain tumor. Subjects comprised 17 patients with large hypervascular brain tumors who underwent preoperative selective embolization. Micro-catheters (2- or 1.7-F) and shapeable hydrophilic micro-guide wires were used for pial artery (branching from the posterior or anterior cerebral artery) or ICA dural branch embolization. Embolization was performed under digital subtraction fluoroscopy with Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles (150-250 mm) and/or
